Trying to get my snare to have more presence without over loading the mix
Yes yes I know dubstep sucks herp, but I'm looking to get some advice on giving the snare more presence without cranking the volume up. As soon as I throw any sort of compression or a limiter on the track I feel like the snare loses its power. I have the bass side chained to the snare but I still feel like it needs some more oomph.

a boost around 200 will just add more off the bottom end of the snare which you already have too much. You want to add higher end frequencies if you want it more present. Fist off, that top end synth is too loud, Lower all the synths. the snare needs to be a raised a dB or 2. Secondly. Cut a little around 200 - 300. See what that does. Adding a short delay ie like 30 ms which is eqd with lots of top end or distortion to get those higher end hz, and panning that making use of the hass so you have the presence but is not taking too much room. As dave mentioned , a transient designer can add more high end but do this in parallel, And lastly, a small amount of side chain to make compression using the snare as your input.
and those synths need to be controlled. The reason your snare isn't fitting has more to do with your synths than the actual snare. They are just painful. They are too loud, they are too piercing and just make it hard to listen to. And stop putting so much reverb on your synths. The whole point is for them to sound raw. All your productions lack that rawness. They all sound like some fag sprinkled fairy dust on them.

so like skrillex's new EP, Wow, i've never taken the stance that dubstep sucks as a universal. When skrillex came out with a few of his earlier tracks. there really was something cool in that. Like that rock and roll tune. That growl , the first time you hear it was nasty. Noisia did stuff sort of like it but yaa. Anyways, this new EP was so fucking bad. I mean what the fuck happened. talk about a break thru artist following up like a genre bending trend with the most banal music ever.

Your drums have nowhere near enough presense and grit and grind here.
I'd say pull all the faders down and get the drums slamming - then maybe post that up here to see if people think the drums have it. Then put the synths back in.
I don't think the synths sound dirty enough and a more grungy and realistic room verb, that sounds like a basement, but quite a big one mind, might help.
You have a lot of skill, just need to refine some shi1t
