Confused which is worse?

a) never having experienced something (and being totally unaware of it's existence) which could, if you did experience it, totally blow your mind and change your life in a positive manner, or

b) coming very close to experiencing it (being consciously aware of it's potential occurrence), yet at the end failing to actually experience it due to one thing or another altering the course of events

which do you think is worse? in other words, if you had to choose between a) or b) which would you pick for your life?
