yup, all about the space terrace. it's his home arena.
okay so i came up from NYC for canada day weekend and went to GUV against all of my canadian friends' warning. i knew what it was going to be like (same thing happened to pacha here, was great, amazing place, then overrun by yolo candy ravers). and it was exactly that.
got there around 2am (was at digital during the day). long line outside, but we just cut it because none of the little kids had any idea/were paying attention. now, i've heard about Guv for a while and i just wanted to check it out. it's such a legendary place and even though i knew it'd basically suck, i wanted to see it for myself.
the actual club is amazing. i loved seeing the little hallway to get in and behind it, this HUGE area with people standing on teh speakers (to me, the legendary Guv picture), fog everywhere, lasers. god DAMN the place was packed. it was an oven. and of course, #TranceFamily noob crowd. whatever. found my friends, got a drink (took 10 minutes to get to the bar) and that point, asked to go to the outside terrace before i died. it legit took 20 minutes to get from the bar on the back right to the other side and outside. even when i pushed forward, there was nowhere to go. lolz.
was outside for legit 2 hours. packed as well, but fresh air was nice and they had speakers with markus. some legit weirdos outside, but nothing i havent seen in underground warehouse parties in brooklyn. nothing phases me at this point.
went back inside around 5am and there was finally some room. danced on the main floor a bit until the end of the night.
markus was pretty good. some great moments and some eh moments. as expected, when youre playing that long there are going to be parts of teh set where the DJ is deciding where to take it. one of the highlights for me was definitely age of love. what a comeback that track is making this summer, eh? rabbit hole came a bit too late and wasnt as banging as i expected. he dropped adam beyer - human reason and a few other bangers, btu then added some cheesey vocals that didn't belong in a "rabbit hole". he was good overall but not amazing.
i did LOVE how much fucking fog they were spraying at 6am. it was hilarious. it felt so good! lol. not going to lie, seeing markus as just a shadow behind the decks in a fog filled room was badass.
would never really go back there (they're moving anyway, no?) but all i could imagine the entire night was how much carl cox would destroy that room. it was MADE for that big room techno. i can't even imagine how insane it must have been back in the day when cox, carola, diggers would smash the place. wowow!
