Ziptnf - Battle Machine [heavy psybreaks]

Following up on Robot Supremacy, I'm dropping another full-blast powerbreaks mix. I broke into a sweat while recording due to the torrential flood of energy. Play this one very loud, preferably while doing some type of physical activity. It also helps if you pretend you're a giant robot, running around blowing things up.

Matskie - Psyborg Pt.2 [Divergence]
48K - Shadowmen [YellowFinger]
Kwah - Sentient Technology [Broken Robot]
Beatman & Ludmilla - Moldova (Unconscious Mind[s] Remix) [Ayra]
Unconscious Mind(s) - FD Psybreaks [Ayra]
Monk3yLogic - Agent of Chaos [Broken Robot]
Deformaty & Lightspeed - Master Control (Breaks Mix) [VIM]
Geon - The Monster [Acida]
Four Motion - Dark Winter [Divergence]
Aggresivnes - More Contempt (Too Dusty Remix) [Elektroshok]
Home Alone - Drop It (Too Dusty Remix) [In Bloom]
Decoder INC - Reebown [Elektroshok]
Beta & Karl Sav - Peytons Bassface [Straight Up!]
Blazer - Requiem [Ayra]
Fletric - Plazma Funk (BreakZhead Remix) [Ego Shot]
Brian Cameron - Serotonin Syndrome (Eshericks Remix) [Perfecto]
Nailblaze - Ancients of Future [Distorsion]

Yeah. Sorry for posting this late. I would have been able to write a review and my thoughts but

my brain exploded after listening to this mix.

I pumped this earlier today and got 60 stars in Super Mario 64. Shit was KILLER.

No real complaints or anything. I'm not even in a position to critique a mix of this genre anyways.. but if I didn't hear anything out of key or clashing then it was great man. Energy was intense

Really? The first transition was miles out harmonically.

Sadly Zip, I didn't think this stood up to your previous psybreaks mix. That was one was generally solid with a few "fuck yeah!" tracks, but here it didn't feel like you'd found tracks of the same quality as last time round, and I personally thought the mixing was a little forced in places. My diagnosis is probably not quite enough time spent hunting for tracks.

Yeah, that first transition was a bit awkward, the timing was right, but wasn't really well executed because of how much swing there was.

Honestly, though, I can't admit to your diagnosis. I searched the entire discography of almost every single label that Dave and I have ever played, in addition to random labels that we haven't played all the way back in the breaks catalog for the last few years on beatport. There could be other worthy tracks that I could have found, but this mix wasn't created for lack of trying to find quality tracks. There aren't as many "signature tracks" on here because the labels just hasn't been as good lately.

The bombs on this mix are "FD Psybreaks", "Drop it (Too Dusty Remix)", maybe "Requiem" and "Plazma Funk".

Sorry you didn't enjoy it, but I actually really put a lot of effort into it! Maybe next time.

I've seen Pacific Rim(job) recently which was guff. However THIS robot-based fun looks brill. I loved your previous robot breaks set (still play it on my commute, as I kick pigeons out my way like a stomping badass) so I'm all ROGER ROGER over this.

Ah well, apologies then, I don't mean to denigrate your efforts. I've had similar experiences after making a couple of niche sub-genre mixes in relatively quick succession: if the pool of labels and producers is small then you often have to leave it for a while to recharge with fresh tracks, otherwise you have to mix it up. Although psy-breaks is monster fun, it's not a particularly varied style and when I've witnessed it executed at its best, the DJ was always mixing in other styles of breaks as well.

Interestingly enough, I didn't pay attention to the fact that the cover was a Pacific Rim fan-art until I posted the source! I haven't seen the movie, but I have heard mixed reviews. It looked terrible, honestly, but some have said it wasn't as bad as it looked.

This set still pumps me up when I'm going out for runs. When a big drop happens I get a big burst of speed

I have little patience in waiting for artists Actually, the reason I went ahead and did this mix was that I felt I hadn't explored enough labels and felt I could put together a solid mix without having to wait. Also, I started planning this back in May and had less than half my tracklist ready, but waited for 3 more months to allow for some of the labels to update their catalogs with new material. I'm sure if I knew as much about breaks as Dave does, I'd be able to work in some different break styles, but alas, I don't

It's difficult to try to keep improving on previous mixes of previous styles, especially if I've already done them well. I've done a host of different subgenres of psytrance, as well as other unrelated genres. Pumping out mixes like a factory for the last 5 years has caused motivation and inspiration to dwindle. I think it might be about time to take a hiatus at the end of this year. I've got about 3 more sets planned, and then it might be time to turn off the decks for a while. Despite recent success in my mixes the last 2-3 years, it seems that feedback has become more sparse, yet more critical, especially when my listeners inevitably end up comparing new mixes to old mixes. Hopefully a brief retirement will recharge my batteries and I'll come back stronger. I'll spend more time planning and try to come up with new ideas with more thought behind them. Hopefully that will result in a more enjoyable experience for both listener and DJ.
