Value of NI Komplete

So I have been considering picking up the latest Komplete for Kontakt (since its four hundred dollars by itself ) and the immediate value proposition of having all of the other NI synths and samples including the ones that come with battery for Kontakt is nice.

How often do they release new versions that you have to pay for? The upgrade price at $149 seems kinda steep for a product that's already on version 9 to me.

Yeah Komplete is great, I upgraded from Reaktor, which I had already bought discounted so didn't pay full price, but even still I think it holds its value. I love reaktor, but find a lot of the other instruments really useful too. Haven't upgraded to K9, I bought both Razor and Monark cheap anyway and I prefer Battery 3 to 4.

Have you messed around with Kontakt at all? At least from my research it seems like the sampler to end all samplers and that while Battery is nice for quick stuff Kontakt has the power to do alot of things to the samples very quickly to make them sound how I want.

There's not a better software bundle on the market than Komplete and it's definitely worth the money.

Battery is good for a lot more than just quick stuff. It's one of the better drum samplers around and not really a substitute for Kontakt. I use Kontakt a lot for different libraries (NI and 3rd-party). It really is the undisputed king of samplers in the software world (IMO, of course).

Yeah I use Kontakt quite a lot, but Battery 3 remains my goto drum sampler for electronic based tacks, I love the workflow, demo'd version 4 but didn't click with it like 3, even though it looks nicer. I do like the Abbey Road kits for Kontakt and theres loads of great 3rd party content as Cryo mentioned. Upgrading to Komplete is a no-brainer if you're paying full price for Kontakt.
Here's a rough video I made for my journal yesterday!

Well I went ahead and pulled the trigger. Thanks for the info guys. Reaper has an ok sampler for basic stuff, but right now I also don't have much of a sound library outside Omnisphere. Im spending too much time hunting down common samples / sounds. Hopefully Kontakt and Battery will keep me spending more time making music and less time fiddling with my DAW effects to make even one sample sound right.

Not to mention Absyth and Reaktor look amazing

Kontakt is a wonderful sampler, as is all of the Kontakt powered instruments, from both NI and 3rd party makers.

Battery 3 is good, its my main drum sampler, but I haven't had a chance to mess with 4. I heard 4 is a step back from 3.

Reaktor is WONDERFUL. Out-of-the-box its great, the stuff other people have made for it is fantastic, and many times I think I need to find another effect or synth to do something, and all I have to do is look through Reaktor.

I love Absynth, it sounds incredible, I think its my 3rd most used soft synth.

I got Komplete 7 yonks ago, and barely use most of what I got. In fact, I only bought it because it was going to be cheaper than buying just FM8, Kontakt, Battery, Absynth, and Reaktor.

Oh, and I don't use Massive, it never "spoke" to me.

Just got it all installed, seems nice but at first glance it looks like Omnispheres UI has spoiled me to death, hopefully that is not the case! Time to learn some Absynth (and maybe even make something with beats)

EDIT:

After a bit of screwing around I am starting to find my way around. Lots of good stuff to discover

Absynth with Audio In seems super useful to give my Omnisphere sounds a bit of extra "otherwordly" sound that seems hard to make with Omni.

Also I didn't even know I wanted Monark I think its turning out to be my favorite.

Yeah Absynth is fantastic, but the interface isn't one of its strengths. I still think Absynth has the best envelopes of any synth I've used period, they are one of the best features alongside some unique effects for audio processing, and I also like the way you can draw and morph wave types which can also be used as modulators. I think it often gets overlooked because of the interface but it's a powerful sound design tool and wipes the floor with Massive imo.
