If Eric Prydz can do it......

so you hear a lot of DJ's blame the newer generation of the EDM crowd the reason as to why they have changed up/diluted their sound...so not necessarily by choice, but they do that to stay relevant and to still get booked at big festivals, etc.

i believed this at some point, however, i was checking out Eric Prydz EDC set..and it sounds hardly anything like the big room electro/house/crap that the majority of DJs played during EDC. Also, Eric Prydz still gets booked at Vegas on long weekends, still plays his style and sound to the lowest common denominator EDM fan, IE the uninformed that likes Avicci and Afrojack and Hardwell, etc.

So if Eric doesn't need to sell out, how come other DJs have sold out?

Eric Prydz is Eric Prydz. In the same boat as Sasha, Digweed, Carl Cox, etc. You don't tell them what to play. And there music remains relevant. You also don't see any of the techno DJ's selling out. A lot of the trance DJ's sold out because they think trance is dying (probably right) and they are trying to remain relevant but that's just killing it faster. I think a few of them are starting to move away from the whole "EDM" festival sound.

Although you would think Armin, Ferry etc would be big enough to play what ever they want.

For me, Prydz is like the middle ground. When he came over to the States I was so happy/excited to catch his sets...but after a few times it was more or less the same and the magic disappeared. He's preferable to other EDM names but definitely not in a class of Digweed or Cox, who are guys that I still get excited to see even after 100x. Although I think it's a bit of an apples and oranges comparison as Diggers and Cox tend to focus more on DJing new/abstract/other material while Prydz pretty much plays out his own stuff. What separates Prydz' though (IMO) is the quality of his productions - the dude has an arsenal of bombs that are distinctly his sound that are different enough to separate from the rest but also dancefloor/commercial friendly enough to involve a huge crowd of tens of thousands...Middle ground. Good for him!

I'm confused as to what your point is with posting that set by Prydz to me it sounds like music which is easily accessible by the general public, very bright, trancey, HOLY BREAKDOWNS BATMAN, airy, and not very thought provoking.

Comparing Carl Cox and Digweed to Prydz is like comparing Marcel Dettmann and Chris Liebing to Richie Hawtin.

I actually got bored during his set and left back to the Neon Garden stage. Probably had to do with hearing the same tracks of his over and over again.

Marcel and Chris who? ha ha

I guess you win.

But then again, I hate techno so not really.

I was merely comparing Prydz to Cox and Digweed from a booking perspective. You aren't going to pressure any of them to play what they don't want to play. And they aren't going to feel pressure to play the big drop EDM shit.
