Exclamation **** VETO THREAD ****: TA DJ Genre Challenge

In this thread we will discuss and vote on the genre that will be replaced with a wildcard. The genre with the most votes will be removed from the competition.

Or, we can discuss the option of the wildcard itself. In my mind, the wildcard is a free selection for the recipient to make a mix of any style, preferably one they have never mixed before.

Alternatively, we can veto the genre and replace it with one suggested by the members.

I'll have Sushi lock this thread once the challenge begins.

One thing to consider here is that the one's pain is often the other person's gain. Unless this turns out to be close to unanimous, It can be a bit disappointing for some. An alternative would be a personal veto, although I don't know if that would complicate the procedure of assigning genre's too much.

As for the wildcard, I'd honestly feel a bit cheap if I got it. It's basically a free ticket out of the entire challenge, which is about a little more then just about doing a mix you haven't done before right?

I prefer the way we did things in the past, where we'd have a personal veto, for the reasons Bierheld has stated.

Yeah, I was afraid one of the unfair advantages of the wildcard would be that the person who receives it gets a free pass. However, the requirement is that they still make a mix, or face not being allowed in future competitions. It's also highly recommended they do a style they have never done before.

So there are drawbacks and advantages, but it's definitely controversial.

I'd be able to work in personal vetos, I suppose. What are other people's thoughts on that?

I don't know, the personal veto was quite nice in the past, but I do like the idea of us all vetoing one genre together. Changes things up a bit. Especially since Nick will, I believe he said, work to make sure we don't repeat genres we've done in the past.

So, what's it going to be then? Since it doesn't look like any of the other participants are going to be very vocal about this and the sign up period is about to end.

No veto. I'll keep in mind personal vetos and previous genres already completed.
