Techno Trance!!!

Is this genre still alive? Does it still get played somewhere in the world?. Or was it just meant to be heard once when Vath gave birth to it in the 90s.

What do you classify as "techno trance"? Tech trance? Early '90s Frankfurt trance? A previously undiscovered lost valley of producers all ripping off that one tune by D-Shake?

Is this a thread about Charlotte de Witte?

It could be. I feel it should be. I wouldn't mind it if it was.

I dunno if it's a thing right now, but i still remember that TTT (Tribal Tech Trance) sound from the mid-00s. Mostly Randy Katana sound.

Gemini, Aquarius, One Solid Wave, Play it Loud, Another Wave...

i got the info from this site https://givetranceachance.net/the-history-of-trance/

I was referring to the early trance that was played at Dorian Gray. Here is a set example of what I was referring to.

Which is kind of my point, really It's not proper techno, but it's fun to see someone playing "La Vache" and "Hold That Sucker Down" to this day, so she could well have her own section on Beatport for normal millennials who just want to feel that old rush one more time. She's cool in my book, I like her and Enrico #CoupleGoals

A lot of that set contains music that's sort of the inflection point where EBM and Belgian New Beat started branching off into trance. You honestly might have more luck searching modern versions of those genres if you're looking for more of it.

Turns out my D-Shake crack wasn't that far off the mark, because that tune could fit neatly into this set (if it isn't already - I'm not scanning five hours in full to find out).

Although honestly, a lot of the stuff in here isn't really "trance". It just sounds like a big mash-up of 4/4 rave anthems from that era: some big UK hits, lots of Belgian orchestral stab stuff, and Energy Flash, because of course. I've no doubt that this stuff got played at the Dorian Gray back in den tag, but for me "trance" became its own thing when it started getting faster, more arpeggiated and more distinctly German.

As for whether this stuff still gets played? More than fucking ever. You can probably go to Panorama Bar on a random Saturday night and hear a fistful of early '90s classics thrown in by the likes of Paramida or Alex Kassian. Shit, I heard DJ Life play The Grid - Swamp Thing the other weekend, a tune I thought was beyond the necromancy skills of even the most doggedly ironic DJ.

@2:34:22 it starts.

Not much to add, we for sure never used the word trance back then over here in 1990 and 1991. Not even techno.

The Dorian Gray of course was something for the happy few.

Over here we had to do with the Turn Up The Bass series which slowly introduced some trancy sounding tracks. Special mentioning Quazar with Seven Stars and Last train to paradise. They don't get mentioned often.
It was the most successful series ever in the Netherlands: https://www.discogs.com/label/296905-Turn-Up-The-Bass
(The second review at Discogs is exactly in line with my 1988-1993 memories)

Many of the tracks of the Dorian Gray set also were in these series and their Megamixes, which were amazing in a time there wasn't Ableton available, interesting to have a listen I think as it's a nice view in back in time and clearly shows the influences from different countries:

Tracklists in the comments.
