i've got a super fast speed cd-rom and 32x burn cd writer. I can copy data cd's onto cdr's at 32x (2.5 mins or so) with no problem, and with buffer at 100% most of the time.

Problem:

when i try to copy audio cd's (using Roxio or CDR-WIN (cdrwin doesnt show buffer but still slows down)), they will NOT copy at 32x as the buffer lingers between 1% to 50% - takes as least 4-5 minutes (even set at 32x). Does the "digital audio conversion speeds" for my cd-rom come into play here or have an impact on the reading speeds? Is this normal to burn data from one cd to another at 32x but not be able to burn music cd's in the same amount of time???

well i'm just wondering if this is normal. I thought that having installed a ripping program such as "Cdex" could impair some of the reading settings, thus slowing down the burn process....is this possible at all?

hmm...please let me know if you have any idea, or have a similar problem such as mine.

I don't know about 32x recorders, mine is 12x but here's my 2 cents.

The faster speed you set while burning an audio cd, the higher possibility that the cd won't work at older players (5+ years back). I don't know if it's the problem for you (probably not), but from my experience I know that burning audio cds with higher speed than 8x causes such risk. So I burn my audio cds with 8x speed.

32x is the theoretical maximum speed of the drive. The speed of the read depends a lot on the software you use, the quality of your reader drive and most of all - your settings. I don't often make bit for bit copies of my audio cds, I prefer to rip them to high quality mp3s, but I know for a fact that Roxio software is notoriously slow and inaccurate for some people. Trying better software may increase the speed at which you copy audio cds though, for example Exact Audio Copy http://www.exactaudiocopy.de , CDRWin http://www.cdrwin.com http://www.goldenhawk.com , or Fireburner http://www.fireburner.com/downloads.shtml .

Are you makin a straight copy from cd to cd, or converting the audio cd into mp3.

32x read isnt all that fast these days, lol. But if yr talkin about 32x write, then that is fast

But anyway if you try and copy audio to fast it will fook up, so thats prob why its slower.

some factors to take into consideration if you are worried about your recording messing, or being incompatible, is the quality of your blank cds AND if your burner has built-in buffer overrun protection (burnproof/justlink). I burn all of my cds at 24x and there is no noticeable difference or compatibility problem if I burn it at that speed or any lower speed. If you use good blank cds you shouldn't have a problem, just be weary about generic brands if you intend to maintain a long shelf life for your recordings.
