Pink Ortofon's = Goodness!

Got my new ortonfon pink stylii today... the scratch ones.

dropped them on my concorde, replacing the nightclub-S stylii on there before.

No real noticable difference in sound quality, yet... I'll edit this post if I change my mind... but they really dont sound different than the nightclubs - still has the good bass and clear highs... as I use them more, maybe i'll notice some differences, i'll post them if I do.

definitly tracks better. The nightclubs skipped more than my Shure M44G's.. but the pink scratch stylii seems to do as good, all be it at a higher tracking force. If your not familiar with the M44 series from Shure, they have excellent tracking properties, and are a good reference. The needle itself (on the pink stylii) is also wider/more robust than the nightclubs - so they seem to be built to take more abuse...

and.. they were cheap. $49 for a set, delivered to my door. tight.

If your running ortofon's, and want better tracking without loosing lots of audio quality, check out the scratch stylii - seems like a nice product!

Don't scratch styli wear out the vinyl faster though? I have the nightclub S's too, and they skip sometimes when I backspin during cueing...but I always thought that was a result of the vinyl not being a tight fit on the center column pole thing (the name of it escapes me atm).

I would imagine so... im sure they (or any of the ortofons and thier high tracking pressures) aren't the best thing for vinyl!

I dont really practice much on the ortofon needles... im still trying to wear out my shure M44G's which are going on 8 months with no real noticable wear.. they track nicely at 1.5g and are vinyl friendly

I myself just purhcased a pair of shure m44-7's. Decided these will do for home use/practice and got a damn good deal for them. A pair for 99.99! Can't complain there...

There is a range of ortofon stylii available. It just depends on your needs. check around the forums or ortofon.com for better explanations of which stylii are for what purpose.

My personal recommendation to anyone, who is going to buy ortofons, is the blue (DJ) carts. they aren't very expensive, sound great, and track fairly well. The pink scratch stylii are really nice though, if you want to pay a little more...

As far as the headshell... The Concorde series is the "integrated" cartridge that doesnt mount on a headshell - it plugs directly into the tonearm.

The "OM" series mounts on a headshell.

i've heard good things about the ortofon blue's from other peeps too so i think im goin to be pleased with these

anyway about the scratch cart, they sound pretty tasty but the colour puts me off a bit..

I like the color.. the dark pink (more red, actually, but everyone calls them pink?!) actually goes nice with the black nightclub concorde shell..

but yea, you'll be happy with the blue's.. they are great all around carts.
