big dave, before you say they are pretty clear, you should *really* make an effort to listen to some audiophile-approved headphones... you know, get some headphones for another purpose (portable CD, md, whatever), and go ask at head-fi.org for something that is clear sounding and sounds good... whatever your budget, it should compare well, and probably even sound better than your IXOS headphones... which are normally thought to be quite muddy amongst the audiophile crowd...

You're right, of course. I was speaking of a slightly different concept, however.. not looking for a "top of the line" pair, but instead looking at a different line alltogether, for different uses. Never mind, though. There are headphones as tools for monitoring, and there are headphones for enjoyment, you know?
