My suggestion is that you go to pioneer's website (www.pioneerprodj.com) and look at the comparison sheets that they have. You can download the users manual on that site for both decks too. I have cdj-100s also, and my guess is that there isn't any major difference as far as operation goes. Top loading is about the biggest change. I think that the way you cue and stop/start and use the jog will be the same. I know the jog is a quite different on the cdj-1000, but that's another topic.

been a while, but...
Here's what comes to mind.... the 500s are not as shock/vibration resistant as the 100s - not even close, so definitely keep that in mind. Also, if I remember correctly, the jog dial on the 100 is a bit 'lighter' than the 500, so there will be a bit of a difference when pitch bending. As stated earlier, the 500 lacks effects, but it does have looping....if you haven't played with seamless looping before, give it a shot...this is a really powerful tool.
Let us know how it goes...

Just to warn you, the CDJ-1000 is much much different than the 100 or 500. There are about a dozen or more new buttons, the jog wheel is totally different and the cueing mechanism is slightly different too. I would make sure that you have actually used one before I said that you could handle yourself on it!
