as a dj who loves trance livin in america.. its hard to introduce trance when im doin a party. im playin some party songs.. i throw in some trance everyone is still dancin. then the climax comes on. and sometimes its really long too.. what the hell are people supposed to do during the climax? it kinda sucks i get some complaints about playin trance sometimes. anyone have any suggestions like what to do during the climax?
maybe hire the guy from Tiesto @ Energy 2000? lol
anyway maybe i need to get some house records |

I think WHEN you play the trance record is very important. When you have the people all dancing good on techno songs, you can change to trance. When you're playing these ambi sounds, you can't play a tranzy tune. Trace can really bring people in trance (duh :stongue: )but that has to be when they're already warmed up. it's hard to explain this, but to put it simple, when you reach a climax of your DJ sett (usually you reach the first at 40-50 minits), a trance song is very appropriate. Then you get the effect of people putting their hands in the air, applauding, or screaming with their body moving to the high tones of the tune.
Have you tried breakdown mixing?
Tune A is hitting its first beat of the breakdown (=climax)
Tune B has an intro and then it goes into breakdown
You have to put it exactly that way, that when tune A finishes his climax, tune B starts its climax. It's like drugs for the people, i can assure you :tongue2 |

i mix hard trance and i usually will throw in a few trance songs with some longer breakdowns. what i find is that most trance songs have more then a 1 breakdown so right after the first short breakdown start mixing out and then go to your incoming record and when the breakdown comes up again on the original record push the crossfader over and usually but not always you can keep both going on at the same time. however if your gonna attempt this live make sure you know the structure of the songs your playing real good so you know when to cut certain parts out and where to fade in the new beats and original breakdowns. this really s with the crowds head because they will think it is all one song which means you just pulled off a seamless mix and your the

| Part of the problem is finding really good trance tracks without long or too many breakdowns. PVD does a really good job of this, IMO. If you want to get slightly into remixing, then what you can do is get a sample of a generic bass beat--one that mixes well with all tracks...like one from pretty much any track written by PVD. Loop this beat on a cd and then mix it into the breakdown, so that there is less time without bass. Record your "mix" and use that. You're SOL if you only have vinyl, but you can always get a third deck and find a track with a long bass beat intro that you can use to do the same function live. If you don't change the BPM throughout your set, then you won't have to beatmatch it more than once. |

oh, spin hard trance! the climaxes in most of my trax are energetic and far from boring...there is also less time on the track w/ out a beat(breakdowns).
i spun hard trance a few times at the local club here and they seemed to respond well to it! which is good cuz it's what the majority of my trax are..:D |

| Or else you could just try and spin more progressive tracks (or more progressive sounding remixes) so that the breakdowns are not so long. Another thought is to just ing go wild with your mixer during the break down. I mean tweak with the EQs and pans and , or kinda do that quick up/down of the up fader to get a kinda "waWAwaWAwaWA" sound (or course you could also use real FX if you have them). You know generally remind people that there is a DJ up there. These things may not make people scream and put there hands in the air, but they could help spice up the breakdown. I think the main thing is to drop the records with the long break downs at the right time (as has already been mentioned) and also to not play one track with a huge break right after another. |

| Normal trance should only be played in the beginning of your set, as the time and beer passes by you should switch to hard trance and even later to techno. When you're playing techno it can be a good idea to drop in a hard-trance song with a nice climax, but never ever drop in a normal trance song. At that point it's just too weak too keep the people moving after some banging techno. |

Nobody says it should be like that, I don't give a damn if you spin techno first and ambient in the middle and some funky rock at the end finishing with some rock & roll, but I'll doubt you'll ever get a gig again :rolleyes: |

you have to keep in mind the state of mind people are most likely going to be in during your set
are they high, drunk or whatever?
i've found that trance with long breakdowns really only works well when the crowd is warmed up and they're drunk or high
if this is like a school dance, stick to radio edits, more prog or even the more cheesier commercial stuff
i have records in my bag that i'll never drop in a club, i'll save them for raves
then there's stuff i'll drop when people are sober, but won't do much good other than filler in a club or rave set
this is where reading the crowd comes into play |

| try dancerecords.com i've been ordering from them for about a year now once month and they are located in cali so they get to you fast if your in the USA and i've never had a problem. they have a pretty good selection of hard trance as well as pretty much any other type of electronica music and they have real audio samples of all the songs |
