Green Card Soldiers

I should mention that my great grandfather was a "greencard soldier."

Copied from another website. I shall try and find the CNN article (if there is one).

A report on CNN yesterday said that two Marines who had been killed in Iraq were not American citizens.
The two, of Latino descent, had been legally living in the US on green cards. They were given American
citizenship posthumously.
The report stated that 4% of American troops overall, or 40,000 soldiers, are not US citizens. In order to
join the service, they said the person must be in the US legally. Serving in the Army puts them on the
fast track to get citizenship, and they get free or cheap college.

Here you see how imigrants are serving this country, and die for this country, yet, they are getting so little, in means of unfair restrictions and treating all of them as if they were terrorists. I have a friend on that situation, and he is going to the marines on September, and yet, he is not elegible for no scholarships nor the right to work in the US, yet, he is willing to fight for this country, and the government does not thank them back, and still treats them like terrorists.. Mm

Anyways, sucks to see those soldiers die in order to get the citizenship. I hope something is done for their families at least.

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT???? Green card holders who enlist in the military are put in the fast track towards getting their citizenship. As a matter of fact that's one of the major recruiting campaign's by the military and its VERY successful. Yes we're treating them as terrorists  get educated about the issue.

Dude, in Florida at least, they aren't allowed to have a license, or work permission, and are tracked in Universities and everywhere.

Haha well then they're not green card holders and are probably illegal immigrants:

What is a Green Card?
A green card is a US permanent residence visa. It allows you to live and work permanently and legally in the United States. A green card gives you the legal right to live and work permanently in the United States and to enter and leave the country freely. Green card holders also receive health, education, and other benefits, and they can sponsor relatives for green cards. The green card does not affect present citizenship. A green card holder may later apply for United States citizenship, if desired.

Mmm all I know is that they are on some kind of VISA ( legally ) and they get treated as if they were illegal. Oh well.

Then that's prolly a student (F1) Visa! :D just a guess based on a big hunch...;)

nah, i'm pretty sure that's the case...

u can get any license (eg. Drivers) , SSN, can only have an on-campus job, most scholarships require that u be a citizen, other State-sponsored aid requires u to be a resident, but there are some scholarships that are available, u can get assistantships (kinda like scholarships i guess) from ur major's department....
more recently (post 911), u go thru a whole process of registering with the INS, and it's an ongoing process (repeated), and most universities are required to monitor ur actions. (for ex. profs need to report if a student is absent from class for more than 3 days)....

anyway....

dood, whatever. like occirider said, get educated about the issue. i dont know what you're referring to, but definitely not permanant residents posessing green cards. how do i know your statement above is bluff. i'm living this first hand experience - go to a uni, drive a car, work, and am not tracked. yet i have a green card.

You are correct man. I think it's great what they are doing...
My great grandfather was a decorated soldier, and has a street named after him here. His son, my grandfather, also served in the NATL guard in WW2. :D Great grandfather used to work on the railroad when they were still building many railroads. Teh family used to live in Box cars. :)
