dude it's not about paranoia.. All PVD knows about SARS is whatever his agents/himself read in newspapers or hear on TV. And what he reads/hears isn't exactly pretty. For instance, I called my grandparents in Israel the other day and they are sick worried about my family here thinking we are all gonna get sick and die soon.

well actually its a little bit better then the return of Christ. I don't know if you know this but when Christ is supposed to return that is going to be the end of the world and we will all be judged!!! Ooooh, that'll be bad.

So yes, I was hyped for PVD since he is not here very often and has a lot of new stuff whereas AVB is here often enough and has no that much new stuff.

well said.

i'm a little biased here, but PvD blows AvB right out of the water.

Paul 'keeps it real', whereas Armin can get a little too fluffy for me. the vibe that Paul creates in his sets and the journey he takes you on is like none other. you have to experience it live, words can not describe...

You are forgetting that AVB and other aren't spinning in an asian-dominated venue.

SARS isn't limited to any one race. You could have, say, 10 people acquire SARS from any other club but Viva, and have none out of the "asian-dominated" Viva.

I guess those DJs just don't care about our health.

Don't get me wrong, I totally understand his concern for HIS health, but I think it's pretty lame for his promotional agency to be saying that he did it in the interest of OUR health. I also think that's pretty ing arrogant to say he doesn't want to "cause anyone to attend a crowded venue" - as if people would not go out to any club unless he was spinning?

I give PvD the benefit of the doubt (having never met him) and say that he is an awesome DJ and probably a very nice guy as well - his agents, on the other hand, are another story...

there's more to this than that trust me. i wouldn't accuse any DJ of being self-serving unless i knew the details 100%. Don't wanna risk (offending) anybody ..

and the fact that Viva often has many asians has nothing to do with it either. PVD has never even played there, how would he know what the clientel there are like?

I totally agree man, that's why I was dissing his promoters and not him. DJ's care about their fans, usually - their agents generally only care about how much money is rolling in, and since PvD must make an assload from spinning practically 20 days in a row, the agents don't even give the cancellation a second thought. His Toronto gig got cancelled while other Canadian ones didn't (there are SARS cases in other provinces too), so it's hard for me NOT to wonder if it's tied in with their long-term grudge against TO...

Yes PvD is an amazing DJ, he blows Armin out of the water (especially recently). But then again, what does it matter, I'm still going to party whether or not PvD's spinning... and Armin happens to be here. :)

Personally I'm not crazy about hype for any DJ. I mean it's fine to say "Wow look at this lineup, it's going to be an awesome night!" But I do kind of have to roll my eyes at the "What tracks do you think he's going to spin, how long do you think he'll spin for, what do you think he'll wear..." type threads. And I think there are lots of people who get excited in the former sense about other DJ's, but they don't fire off post after post about how excited they are, they save their excitement for the party. :)

well, actually, i wouldn't roll my eyes at that because obviously they don't care about your health. if they did they would cancel but they want the money that they are getting paid for playing. its a toss up, money or a bunch of people getting sick. i guarantee you, that there will be no autograph signing and hand shaking going on.

another thing that i'm thinking lately is that the event will be cancelled or the guv will have everyone in the venue and the headlining DJs will not show up (due to some "surprise circumstances"). i wouldn't put it by them. that way they can keep all the money from the tickets and not pay the DJs and all the patrons get to listen to Mark Scaife all night. whoop di do!

Have you ever seen him (sober :D)

PvD's livesets don't really do it for me, Armin is much more my style. The only reason I was excited about this party is due to the crowd PVD would draw in, thus making the atmosphere excellent for partying.

Very good point. That was actually one of the major pros to this event, for me.

Well, since you haven't heard PVD live you can't say Armin is better, right ?? Trust me, I too wasn't too fond of PVD before I heard him. Live performances and live sets that you hear on MP3 are not exactly the same thing.

I'm just saying that we shouldn't speculate anything unless we know the whole truth. It might not even have been his promotional company's decision to cancel this thing, but it's still their obligation to provide some kind of formal statement to the public. What else would you expect them to post than what they actually did ? It's not an award winning speech, but I think it does provide some kind of closure to all this.

Easily, I can say that Armin IS in fact better. For me, at this point in time, he IS better. It's fairly simple. Maybe my opinion will change after I've seen him, but I haven't therefore my opinion stays unchanged. Simple. I'm not arguing your 2nd point, but so far, mp3s are all I can go on.
