Geeze Blik, what are you getting all worked up about? Didn't you see the presentation by Rumsfeld the other day? There's not *actual* anarchy breaking out, it's just the same video of one guy stealing a vase being stolen over and over again... ... ...
Meanwhile non-US media is showing the widespread nature of the looting and chaos...and Rummy's still talking about having "a lot of confidence in the US people" to not believe the media coverage of the chaos...sadly, I might be inclined to agree with him, if the government says jump a large portion of the country is all too willing to go along at this point.
Bush has been as brilliant as ever recently too...did you catch the "I reminded them that war in Iraq is really about peace." quote from his visit to see wounded soldiers in DC yesterday?
You can really see how Orwellian things are getting at this point... |

omg.. !! what a tradgedy .. i'm not Iraqi or an Arab for that matter, but i'm a fan of antiquity history and this is just tragic !! and very sad news and bad for any culture!.. i feel so bad for those curators and historians ..

this is just awful.. i mean there's one thing being FREE from a regime.. but being FREE from any LAW and ORDER ?? if this was happening in my own city i'd be fearing for my life .. !
why didn't the coaliton bring in law enforcement as soon as they secured most of the city.. ? what's the point of waiting a week to do it. i know that there are still pockets of resistance.. but there will still be even when law enforcement is in place.. so what's with the delay .. ? the museum tradgedy and hospital looting could have been prevented earlier .. |

| well there were literally thousands of iraqis doing the looting and stuff..and dont forget being seen by the iraqis as the good guys is very important to the coalition...the number of ppl. ransacking shops and stuff was far greater than the number of iraqis trying to stop them...the coalition prolly figured if they tried to do anything now the many poor iraqis would resent it, since this is a real opportunity for them to get stuff for free (TVs, furniture, expensive antiques, money, etc. etc.)...so they just let them be |

| the biggest tragedy is that the whole museum has been looted...there were incredibly old and valuable items in there...they had stuff from 3000 BC from the sumerian era, and its all gone now :( |

:( thats truly sad. such history is priceless, iraq is the cradle of civilization and has had many important and great dates in the history of mankind, its a shame we are losing the relics which would bridge the past to the present.  |

| Sad thing about the museum :(. It's not like the US forces couldn't have sent several marines to guard such places ov value, so the people who were supposed to organize post-war Iraq (if Bush remembered to assign anybody to do that) should be held responsible. But that just points out what I and several other people have said here before. The US leadership has only focused on planning of the invasion itself, while it neglected all the other aspects of governing the occupied areas of Iraq afterwards. |

Yes the Administration had supposedly been warned since January now by experts in the fields of art and archaeology in the US that this museum would be a prime target for looters if and when Baghdad was wrested from Saddam's control. I'd say this was poor planning by the Administration (i.e. not enough troops and resources to occupy in "Rummy's Rush to Baghdad!" warplan)....I just hope this is not a sign of things to come. |
