| i guess they are right when they say that the Lotus "business" friday caters to young professionals (yuppies are not good partiers). First of all, they club itself is really annoying to navigate. SOrry if my typing is slurred...as I am slurred....anyways...Lotus's lay out is fine, alhtough, the main dance floor is way too small for any headlines to get the feel they want in a crowd. the thing thats the worst is that the clubs 400 bouncers only let you go up and down certain stairwells so that it takes 20 minutes to get from a to b instead of 3. its all progressive, which wouldnt be bad if ppl danced at all instead of standing around and acting like they are too something to dance. oliver was good i guess, but obviously restriced to boring beats since the king of boredom was about to take the decks. i cant say Jimmy Van M (with his ugly ass groupies) was horrible, he wasnt bad technically but the choice of songs was poor even for prog, i left about 5 songs in since we wernt feeling any vibe. instead jumped on my decks at home...grr...i hate clubs with no vibe. system fridays is better for prog...too bad since that sucks too. i dont understand why there are no trance nights anywhere, thinking of moving. so in summation, if u want image wannabes...go to Lotus. If you want to hear Oliver spin prog and some semi cool tracks on resident nights, go to Lotus. If u wanna see Aquaviva in a few weeks, go to Lotus....BUT THE VIBE IS TY! |

The vibe is what you make of it. If you contribute nothing, do you just expect someone else to create a vibe for you? Do you think it's someone else's job to ensure that you have fun?
I was at Lotus last night with some friends and we had a great time. A few drinks, some dancing, and a lot of fun. I don't just sit around waiting for a good time to happen, I make it happen.
If you're going to have a ty attitude, why bother going out at all? Stay at home and play on your decks for all anyone cares.
P.S. don't wait for John Aquaviva..James Lavelle is going to lay down a sick set on the 25th. |

| Damn...now James Lavelle I would brave almost any environment to see. He gave me a copy of his Fabriclive set at Fabric last year and I listen to it all the time. Some really wicked beats on there. I've always enjoyed his sets over in the UK so would be good to see him in Toronto. Wish he was coming to System or a better club but I agree with trancepants - the vibe is what you make it. As long as you're with friends, got some decent music - don't worry about the people around you, just party it up hard with those you're there with and you can't not have a good time! |

so afraid that they'll look like idiots or what not, they don't dance. They stand around staring at people and try to figure out if they're as cool as the rest around them. |
reminds me of fluid...
i remember i went to see max graham there on a sunday this past september, and it was totally like that. max was pumping the tunes, but everyone was standing around on the side just trying to look cool.
it's tough trying to enjoy yourself in a situation like that.

I agree with the comment about making the atmosphere what you want it to be.. Remember - Lotus IS not your party crowd, it's more of your "mingling" crowd... I was there last night (for their regular night) and i saw my share of partiers & posers... but go out & have your own thing going on and make the best of it..
P.S - if you think navigating that night is bad.. there was a 2 hour wait to get to the upstairs "hip hop room"... when we decided to go up there around 2:30 it was still rammed and so nasty nasty HOT |

You were dancing? Then were you asked if you were on "e" like I was, about 5 time while on the dancefloor? I love to dance. I'll dance wherever I love the music, whenever. But for the first time in my life people actually made me self-conscious. |
Unfortunately, this sort of atmosphere is typical at most clubs in Toronto. Plastique, O, G-Spot, Joker, Fluid, etc. For some reason these clubs attract the most ing ignorant people that you'll ever see in your life. They can't understand that you would be dancing because you enjoy the music- instead they assume that you're some in' e-tard. THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO ENJOY THEMSELVES AT A CLUB- THEY'RE THE ONES WHO THINK THAT THEIR NIGHT WILL BE COMPLETE UNTIL THEY GET IN A BIG FIGHT. 'EM.
I go to enjoy the music and dance and quite frankly I don't care if they think I look stupid for dancing. I agree with you, I sort of feel self-conscious when I dance there because hardly anyone else is dancing, but I always say ' it'. I came here to dance, I came here to have fun, now let's get to it! (And I don't give a what the gino goombas think of me)

Lotus CAN be classified as one of Toronto's many meat markets and don't get me wrong- I totally hate meat markets because I never go to a club with the intention of trying to get ed by the end of the night (both sexual and drug-wise. I'm one of those rare Toronto partiers who go out for the love of music).
However, I went to the club to hear some great tunes and dance, so that I did.
'em.
Dance like no ginos are watching. ;) |

Maybe they should rename it Lotus Lounge then? Sounds better anyway. The "nightclub" part is really false advertising. |
Good point. I think replacing "Nightclub" with "Lounge" would make more sense in this case. |
