Well $400 won't get you too far ... consider that besides equipment you'll also need records which go for about $10 a piece ...
I suppose you could go with the cheap-o gemini or numark gear but that would be a waste of money pretty much ...
Spinning isn't a cheap hobby, you might want to save up some more so you can get decent gear and tracks.

peace

how much should i save up? and what should i get?

skywarp is right...u gotta save up more.....technics decks...around $450 a piece...and a mixer...buying records will definately surpass the amount of money u spend on the equipment..

if you're like me, you basically have to stop buying anything, and focus all your cash flow towards vynil and tables
sure it means eating kraft dinner for a while, but once you buy the decks and a nice collection of vynil, you can start buying other things, like toilet paper....

haha shockwav i couldnt agree more :)
Buying vinyl is like being a heroin addict. You gather up a little bit of cash and buy some records, then discover that you need a sh*tload more of them to get your jollys worth... so you go out and buy more records. Hey, by now youre starting to enjoy this a little so you go out and BUY MORE RECORDS. By now you are really into the music scene and you know your music well, whats being released and your 'to buy' list is as long as a toilet roll.

This is the stage where you start running your hands down the back of your mate's couches for coins, 'forgetting' about unpaid loans, taking on loans that you are of course going to 'forget', you start cutting back on your fast food intake and resort to bread and water as your 2 major food groups, you only go to clubs that you can get in free, dont drink, dont smoke, in fact anything that requires you to unpucker your arse for a few cents that dont result in the acquisition of more records.

In other words youll get addicted - so make sure you have the job and cash to back it. Otherwise youll become an extremely frustrated and desperate lunatic.

hahaha, how true it is...You go to the record stores on saturday which is an official part of your day and buy a bunch of records. As you leave the owner tells you he is getting a good shipment of new tunes on wednesday...well guess who gets sick from work on wednesday to get more tunes....be prepaired, maney flows out of your pockets like water once you start getting tunes...not that it's a bad thing, but no matter how many records you get, there are still any out there that you just "have to have"...you will see, time will tell. Peace and respect. -Phaze Shifter

or if you're like me, you quickly come to realize that all the vinyl stores in your city SUCK ASS for trance "stock"
and you do 90% of your purchasing online from 8-10 places in Canada, US and the UK, paying exorbitant prices for shipping, waiting up to a month with no sign of your purchase, and putting up with mistakenly shipped records. (e.g. Wasteland isntead of Endless Wave, and then from a DIFFERENT place, Far From Over instead of Wasteland!)

i work fulltime and ALL my money goes towards records... for the past 3 mos. at least

Patticus: www.juno.co.uk
never had a single problem with them ...
patticus
thanks skywarp, but those are the guys im having problems with.. well, them and htfr and others. haha
homebass and yooshi both shipped me wrong things...
i have two orders from juno (system f LP) on the 4th and 13th
and NEITHER has shown. thats not good service

My opinion is that, you buy or the cheapest thing, that is kinda crappy but can learn u the basic things, or u buy some descent stuff like a technics + a vestax/rodec so u dont wast a lot of money
jesten
Hey Patticus, record stores in Vancouver do suck, but try Hypnotik in New West, Columbia st sometimes they have good stuff.(but expensive)

I like to call vinyl Black-Crack, you love it, you need it, and you can't get enough!:)
