Cattaneo:
Ya I was there. As usual on Guv regular nights the crowd is just not up for the music. Overall Vibe was pretty weak. And the place was pretty empty - thats not a complaint!
Never really got into Herman's set. Was too busy chatting ;). But from what I did hear the beats were hard and dark. And although I'm not the biggest prog fan out there I'd admit that it was pretty good. The only track i knew he played was P. Diddy's new one. But again not many people were into the music. I think he would have been better suited for a smaller crowd. Left before his set was over... wanted to keep last night low key.
A few TAs were out. Brunette (awesome), Fantom, Special K, Trance Geek, Cuzo, AdRiaN, Mike and Jenna (so sorry I didn't find ya to say goodbye - Have fun at PVD in MTL!)
See y'all on thursday.. the gloves will be off and it will be no holds barred PARTYing! .. ahhhhhh |

Cattaneo was solid, a bit different than what I expected, but so dark and hard... shiiiiiiiiit! That was a carnage and a half...
From what I've heard Satoshi was great too, amazing tribal progressive all night long, but too bad I didn't have enough energy to check him out too...
Shoutouts to all of you I've seen in there... and Time2Burn, the offer for that ballgame still stands :D:D
Now back to studying. |

I forgot basketball is the national sport in Yugoslavia. :nervous: Maybe you can test me... ;)
I think we should do a TA sports day in the summer. Always hard to get enough people for soccer or football games. Good way to beat a Sunday morning hangover too. ;) |

So last night I finally checked out Argentinian DJ Hernan Cattaneo. Based on the live sets that I had heard from him and his Perfecto CD I was pretty excited at finally getting the chance to hear Hernan play out live. Although I REALLY REALLY wanted to go System to see Satoshi Tomiie lay down a 6 hour set, if I have the choice to hear two DJS that I pretty much EQUALLY like, ill take seeing the one playing on a better sound-system any day of the week. And last night that’s basically what I did. From reading other reviews i’m happy to see that Satoshi ripped System to shreds. I’m glad that it looks like everyone @ System had a kick ass time but as much as I might want to kick myself for not going to System, I really cannot justify doing that. You guys missed out on a GREAT set from Hernan Cattaneo last night. Its too bad they both had to spin on the same night as I am postive alot of the people that were digging Satoshi's sounds wouldve loved Cattaneo's set and vice-versa.
I started my night off in the G.C. Lounge as I usually do whenever I go to the GUV on a Saturday night. Ramy vs David were playing some vocally groovey house beats. I was drunk, and I love funky vocal house ESPECIALLY when i’m inebriated so I was all smiles at the Goldclub Lounge.
At around 12:00 I decided to head into the main room and as I enter the main room what do I hear being spun by Mark Oliver?! Float with Ghosts I love this tune. Really I do. Mark played a superb opening set last night. He threw down some nice driving, chunky dirty ass house tunes. 80’s Ball and Revolution are a select few that came to my mind.
By the time 1am rolled around, the main room of the club had filled up nicely. It was full but not as overcrowded as it has been recently for special event nights at Guvernment so that was definitely a bonus. At around this time, the man of the hour, Hernan Cattaneo took to the decks and started off with some deep groovy progressive house music. From there on in it was basically a mixed bag of anything and everything. If I had to use one word to describe his set i’d say QUALITY. Quality techno, quality breaks, quality trance, quality tribal, quality electro. He basically played anything that is good, and honestly that’s the way a good set should be. Especially a good progressive set.
I didn’t really recognize too many tunes from his set, so im guessing he dropped a lot of new upfront choonage.
However I did spot a few tunes, most notably the Deep Dish vs Puffy collaboration! That’s a REALLY FUN tune!!! Especially on a *big off of a sound system* like they have at GUV. The Junkie XL/Underworld booty and my own choice for tune of the night.
Steve Porter – Definite Form
I. LOVE. THIS. TRACK. From its quirky melody to its big, fat, juicy funked up bassline, this track OWNS! I was bouncing around like a madman when Hernan dropped it.
Mark Oliver came back on at around 5am and he seemed to pick up right where he left off in his opening set. This time around, funking things up a little more with some broken beats
And last but certainly not least, you cant mention a Saturday night out at GUV without mentioning Manzone and Strong, who in their typical fashion killed the Drink last night as they have done every other single time I’ve seen them drop one of their sets at The Drink/Skybar. I never thought id say this but the Drinks is slowly becoming my favorite room to party in at GUV thanks to Manzone and Strong’s funky ass shakin, pimped up to F*ck house music. Straight up, after 1/2am they play wicked tunes and they’ve been steadily kicking my ass whenever ive gone *up there* to hear their sounds.
HOWEVER, to go along with the AMAZING beats last night, the *usual* GUV Saturday night crowd was also in attendance. I’m sure everyone knows what i’m talking about. You know the REALLY OLD Asian people whacked out on an assortment of goodies, the annoying nunchuk glowstick twirling posse/anyone with glowsticks in general *lol*oh glowstick how I hate thee, people with those ANNOYING whistles. The lemmings that seem to be more interested in what color lasers are being projected as opposed to the beats. An over-abundance of barstars, and yea I think you get the picture! PS. No offence to anyone *lol*
But honestly you know what? Cattaneo/and the residents rocked it last night and in the end, if your really going out for the beats then thats really all that matters!!! |

Hahaha, I dunno bro... the more I listen to it, the more I love it... picking up elements that I haven't heard before. For me it's gonna be at least 2-3 months. Then again, I don't go out 8 days a week like you do, so... |
