hey, i have reason 1.01

..and to tell u the truth, im a total noob at it

i guess my question for all you experts out there is..what is a midi interface, and how do i get one, is it something external? because i dont have anything external.

or do i just need software so i can use my normal typing keyboard to hit keys and make some noise?...ya i know this question doesnt even qualify as the basics, but i cant seem to figure it out, i know with fruityloops its much easier.
hey cheggy
A midi interface is external. It is hardware.

Basically, it allows you to connect midi cables to your computer through USB sockets. It is USB on one end and midi on the other. It's useless unless you have a midi controller of some kind. Many midi controllers these days have built in midi interfaces though. Stuff like the evolution controllers, M-Audio controllers and there are plenty of others.

I think there is a program that lets you turn your typing keyboard into musical style, but I forget what its called. Personally, I wouldn't recommend using your computer keyboard to play musical notes. Midi controllers are pretty cheap these days, you can pick up a good one with assignable dials for around $180 US dollars.
