| depends on what you wish to get out of djing, and where you plan to take it. if you're to do it purely for the bliss of the music and purely for the enjoyment, as a hobby, *shrug* what has age to do with preventing you from that? if ur doin it for urself, there's no problemo dude. i'm 21 and i got my decks bout 3 months ago n luvin every second i'm on them. if that's not enough of a reward, i dunno what is |

17. i did it for a couple of years previous to that, but i had no concept of mixing then. i didn't know what beat matching was. quite funny actually. cos i still don't.
After 17 tho' i learned a bit better.
Honestly tho', dj'ing is a career for life. or until you go deaf, which ever comes first. |

21 is most definately too old... don't waste your time.
I'm just kidding :) 21 isn't old, and you can get a feel for it pretty quick.
If I were you and I know what I know right now, I would get two 1200's and a mixer with good eq's. However, from personal experience, especially when starting out, I find that cd's are much much easier to learn with. Being able to cue without difficulty, and especially being able to see a readout of what pitch you are at is extremely helpful. It may not seem that big of a deal to you, but I think most people would agree that it makes mixing a lot easier.
I have two technics 1200's and two pioneer cdj-100's. I think you should buy a pair of techs, but if you want to go with cd's (since you're in Toronto) and you don't want to shell out for the 1000's, I would sell you my 100's if you want them. I find that I don't really use them that much anymore, and I need a bit more money for a laptop. You could of course demo the cd players at my house.
I hope this post didn't come out sounding like a sales pitch... I honestly think you should go with vinyl, yet I really like the 100's (the added flexibility it brings to one's setup is great), but the laptop is more important right now (university very soon!). I'm not officially selling my cd-players (I don't mind having them :)), but when the opportunity arises for someone near me to buy them, I'll offer. They're in too good shape to throw up on ebay, and I want the person buying them to be able to try them out, see the type of condition I keep them in, and make sure they like them.

For Every X-perience there's a tune!!! Every day no matter how old you are you learn new things. Personally I like sets in which a dj tells a kind of story!!!! There are millions of peepz who can mix two tracks but do it in a kind of story way and you got my attention. No matter how old or young you are. So just X-press your feeling

The younger you begin, the easier it'll go for you to learn the basics. But it is true, it's never too late. I thoughed, when I begon (4 months ago now), maybe I'm alrdy a little to old(17) to start with DJing, cuz I heard lots of ppl started at 14yrs. Now I know thats not true at ALL.
But, I bought 1 TT and I alrdy had a CD player. I started with that. I really like doing what I'm doing, I practised alot (up to 1h30 a day, every day) and now I think i'm kinda good in the basics now. And, now I'm saving up for a second TT.
But I still think, the younger, the better. |

I started with cdj-1000's last year, when I was 24 :) Have since added in a Denon DJ151 Turntable (mostly for ripping my vinyl to wav's)..
You are never too old to start! I have serious ADD when it comes to maintaining hobbies.. but this one has been easy. Nothing better after a day of work then coming home and pounding out some tunes.. I'm sure my neighbors would agree! lol ;) |
