Is there any such peice of software that i can record a certain tune into it, then start adding and taking things away from it.

if so then how much are we talkin for a beginner one.
Michael Russo
It's not possible, and even if it was, it's not a good idea (unless you like butchering classics?).

If you want to get started in production, try a tracker like buzz, or fruity, project5, orion, reason, etc.

Then you can get a midi file and have full control over the song. Recording the original song in as audio won't get you very far.
chesco
thats probably what i meant. I ain't very technically minded.

if i have the tune on file, can you change things on it, like adding a beat and stuff with any of these.

*pardon my ignorance.

No

If you have the song saved on your computer, you can't do much to it. I mean the beat is already there, what do you expect to do to the beat.

You really have to start from scratch. You can maybe get samples of the vocals and stuff but that's about it.
A midi file isn't an audio file, it contains all the different notes used. You need to make the synth sounds. Then, you can run the midi file into this and the synth that has this sound on it and it will play the notes out loud.

that then i'll just use a beat loop from one of the vinyl i've got. problem is finding one with a pounding bass.

It was just i think pink floyd - on the run

with a crazy beat added in and some speedy j kind of noises would be a really, really evil tune.
hey cheggy
Um, if this pink floyed song's drums come from a guy on a drum kit, you will find it extremely difficult to get a drum loop to match it in rythem
chesco
no i won't, i'm a mixmaster genius you see.
hey cheggy
Oh, you should have said so earlier. I'll leave you to it then.

there is a pretty sick re-mix of this track floating around.
I heard part of it during a hallucinogen live set...posford
dropped part of it as an intro...preety sweet...though i don't
know who did the re-mix
