ok so i think this might be what i've been missing. you use two or more 3xosc channels for one synth? any other tips you can perhaps share with us...or anyone else for that matter. what about within just one of the channels...you have 3 osc's to tweak so whats a good way to approach that?? would i start with whatever shape i want it to sound the most like and then build upon it?? i guess whats getting me is that when you start to add in the other shapes or channels...it starts sounding like crap...and just a side note...what is the CRS tweak...how do i use it proper like???
ps. dc-...feel free to name some of these better synths you use that are freeware... |
try putting 2 3xoscs on the same fx channel, with some reeverb, delay, a flanger and perhaps an eq. then tweak the lows of 1 3xosc 2 get that phat "low" sound in ur synth. use the other 3xosc 2 play with the highs.
keep one thing in mind: u dont have 2 use saw waveforms only, but they have 2 be a big part of the synth, lets say there are in total 6 waveforms 2x3xosc.. so 4/6 or 5/6 has 2 be saw.
then just detune them a bit. [/QUOTE]
ok thanks i'll try that stuff.... |

Also; Tryin messin with the LFO to make some weird, and different sounds. I like to mess with the 'INS' cuz you can change the properties of the sound.
Volume, Cut, Resonance, and Pitch. You can mess with the wave forms, and create some interesting different sounds. I say, make some FLP's DEDICATED to making synths off the 3x Osc, and practice, PRACTICE, PRACTICE! I have spent hours, upon hours, making synths and that is JUST THE BEGINNING! Fitting that phat synth in a song, and making melody can take a lot of time, and cause grief, but don't fret; if you just started, that's how things are gonna be. Time will make you better, along with experience, and determination. -Mental |

| man this is pretty freaking hard. i've been trying the things you guys have said and i'm getting noise. i can hear that one channel has the lower freqs and one has the higher, but they just don't mess together into one sound. i guess it just takes practice, but if all of my results stay this bad...i'm gonna get no where quick. any other tips that might be of some help. |

Id say to play around with one particular synth preset that you like. stuff around with it chainging the waveforms, the reverb and delay. dont use the flanger though :nervous: youll see how even the smallest changes effect the synth, and then you should be able to transfer all that knowledge into you're own work. but it frustrating not knowing what you're doing. and everyones been there! :whip: |

hmm strange, i always use the flanger, it makes the synth more "harsh" |

| the fruity flanger is not a great tool, chorus is a much better effect, but flanger does have its moments |

HOLY !!! I GOT IT!!!!
thank you thank you thank you to everyone who posted...especially mantisnl. this is great. i hope everyone found this as helpful as i did...this IS whats been missing. i'm going away this weekend, but i'll post a sample when i get back into town...i want to hear everyone's opinion on the synth i just made. thanks again!!! |

sure man, post some samples of what you`ve learned, that would be cool!
i`ll post one here also, have been playing around again so:p
[edit]
ok, i`ve made something that might explain a bit more about synth building, i hope itll help:)
what i`ve done is the following: i made 3 example mp3`s, 1 containing the full synth, and the other 2 containing the 1st "part" of the synth and the 2nd "part" of the synth.
"part" 1 of the synth, this is the "higher" part of the synth, which, ofcourse is needed otherwise the synth will sound too bassy.
synth "part" 1
"part" 2 is next, this is the "lower" part of the synth which gives it a phat touch.
synth "part" 2
now, as anyone can hear, these two don`t sound very phat seperately, do they?:)
well, they actually are very phat, but u gotta put them 2gether, thats what makes it strong;)
1+2=phatness
i hope this helps the ppl which are learning to program synths even a bit more:)
and one last thing: don`t give up and be original;)
grtz,

Hey that kind of sounds like by being original, you are giving up ahaha.
Hey man that was awesome - can I get an FLP? |

you learn the most by experimenting yourself and well, i made the synth and i kinda want 2 keep that part 2 myself. i think i`ve already helped ya`ll a lot by posting this so, ehm, sorry:) |

| synth is ok, but its not exactly original and its lacking quite a lot of treble and hi end mid, even when its not-cutoff its too bassy |
