When I went to Miami for this year's WMC I kept listening to Party 93.1 Hell it would be sweet if we had a radio station like that in Toronto. That would play only DANCE MUSIC! Me and my friend are driving with our windows open, and people on the sidewalk are screaming yeah! to the TRANCE tune that is playing.
However I doubt that Z 103.5 would go as far as Party 93.1 |

See, it's a serious problem for some of you guys, because:
a) you want trance to be more popular, and to have trance massives
b) you want to be able to weed out the jerks.
The more you have of (a), the less you can have of (b), and vice versa. Don't be too greedy.
If z103.5 wants to play trance music, good for them. Maybe more clubs in Toronto will in turn start to play good music. As for the jerks, you need only go to the Guvernment to see that there will always be jerks. (I've got nothing against the Guv either, I love the place, just pointing out that no "filtering" is possible). |

Exactly, it is not like there are no jerks at GUV/KOOL Haus. The only reason there are less jerks at trance events is because many people are :crazy: :eyespop:
And well the ginos go for the liquor. |

People, if you don't bother the ginos, they won't bother you. (at least from my experience) They're not a different species or anything. And you know what?? If you're nice to them, *gasp* they will be nice to you too!!! Amazing, eh? :toothless
Anyway I myself would easily "tolerate" ginos if it meant that trance would become more popular.
Look:
Just think about it for a moment. A "gino" is listening to the radio in his car, and he hears this amazing trance song. Let's say it's Nothing But You. Who is to say that it's not amazing? Anyway, he really likes it, and may or may not say the standard stereotyped phrases to his friends.
The point is, how can you be angry at someone - a fellow human - for enjoying a wonderful song?
When you think about it - isn't it the most ridiculous thing??
Even if you don't like the gino style and attitude, doesn't mean that they don't deserve to listen to trance. That's just dumb.
Like mr.poopyhead wisely said, why don't we just tell black people to stick to their hip hop?? There is no difference between saying that, and telling ginos to lay their hands off of trance.
So just be happy that at least they are enjoying trance! Because in our city, trance is not a huge thing. I don't care who listens to it, as long as SOMEONE listens to it. ;) |

i'm not saying the more GINOS the merrier, i'm saying the more people the merrier.
anyone that wants to come into the scene is fine with me as long as they're not looking for trouble.
i've seen the most thugged out guys @ system on the Fukhouse night.. i thought it was pretty cool. |

Meh.
The 'scene' is supposed to be about acceptance but in it's own way some members try to make it the opposite - implying that participation in it means you adhere to some strict guidelines as to how one looks - whatever.
I've met ginos with poor attitudes and I've met 'ravers' with poor attitudes... The latter being of the 'holier than thou/no set can impress me' variety - and frankly I think those are even worse. |

I agree 100% with itikia on this one. We need to start educating more people about trance in order for the scene to grow, and for those of you who don't want to share the music, stop being selfish, since when did Trance only belong to US?
Sure some Gino's can be an annoyance at clubs, but by playing more trance on the radio doesn't necessarily mean there will be more GINO's at parties, there are lots of other people out there who've never been exposed to Trance/Techno/Prog and radio is the only way to educate them.
I'm sure we'd all love to hear more Trance on the radio, and right now z103.5 is the only station that has the potential to move in that direction. Everything else is playing Hip Hop and R&B, and frankly I'm so sick of it....I'm sick of them forcing Hip Hop and R&B down people throats like "THIS is what you're supposed to be listening to". Sure 100.7 and 89.5 play trance, but at stupid hours when no one is listening (well only the hardcores), so they're pretty much useless to the scene. We need to get our own Radio 1 stared here in Toronto :)
As for the big parties, they do have a better vibe, simply because of the immense energy that exists in the building. I'm speaking from my Better Living Centre days, there's just something amazing about going nuts to a song with 10,000 other people going nuts at the same time. |

I think that it's a great thing that trance is getting at least some exposure. I've tried educating ppl but i have only so many friends!
Ok what did i do?
i made a compliation CD of the best trance tracks that were on my playlist (the first 10 tracks :haha: ) then i gave out a copy to about 10 of my friends and told them to make a copy and give it to one more person.
The outcome? some ppl liked it, some ppl didn't. NOW: i think one of the main reasons why they didn't like it is because they can't relate to it in any way. Commercial means that u can say "yea, i know that track, i heard on the RADIO last nite"
Well, keyword radio aka z103.5 which happened to be GINO!
uh, most of my friends are ginos. Ginos are like our music cousins! They listen to cheese, we listen to the real stuff. Ok, let them listen to the commercialized real stuff that we listen to! wouldn't that be better for both of us? We still keep our underground elements, they get the cheese... we're happy, they're happy everyone is happy!
one more thing: it's a good thing also because young DJs (like myself) who happened to need a break will be getting it once some trance becomes commercial. Personally, i think we all should prosper. It's the change we all needed.
Lets not fear change, usually things change for the better. |
