I've played in front of people many times before. BUt for some reason, I can already feel the shaky hands building for tonight. I know from past expierence that the shaky hands through those first couple of mixes make it really hard to pull of a smooth mix.
So what I'm wondering is any tips to keep myself relaxed and get by those first couple mixes and get into a nice flow? Im having a few beers before hand, so I think that could help. But I already kind of have butterflies, so I dont know how many beers I'll be able to get down before I go on.
So any words of wisdom... |

i say, enjoy the feeling. i've only played in front of people a couple of times, but i was nervous as beforehand. i sort of like the feeling though...makes everything so much more exciting.

yeah. there is defantely no better feeling once you get going :)
the other thing that is kind of making me worried is I had to ship my decks out west a couple weekends ago because Im moving to Banff for the summer, so my friend drove them out for me. which isnt that big of a deal...but iwanted to go over some potential cuts/mixes before hand, just to make sure they work. |

just go with the flow
instead of worrying about your set and worrying that you might make a mistake
get all hyped up about playing infront of a bunch of people in a club
if you're hyped up you'll get so into the music that it'll be near impossible to make a mistake...and even if you do...you won't care because you're so into the music :)
don't worry man you'll do fine
good luck :) |

| Just chillax and have a good time. The crowd and you will be able to feed off of each other's energy and soon enough, I'm sure you'll feel totally comfortable. Good luck, have fun, and let us know how it goes! ;) |

I suggest a few lines of cocaine; it will give you the confidence and energy you need as an amateur DJ.
Jokes! ;) |

NuERA, first of all, congrats on the gig!
As to your nervousness, don't worry, it's common... I haven't spun in a club or anything, but I've done a house party or two and I know the feeling.
You can be certain that after a few tracks, oftentimes after the first transition, you will feel completely normal. :) Capitalize on that, and think about it. If you can be normal a few tracks in, why can't you be normal from the outset? :)
I'd take Kid Lax's advice best of all - change your viewpoint entirely, and instead of focussing on the negative ("Oh God I'm nervous") focus on the positive. (" yeah! I'm actually spinning in front of people!")
:D This goes for everything in life, actually. Good luck in your gig! |
