Days when your off

To the veteran DJs...
Are there days or periods of time when you are "off", as in nothing goes right..beatmatching seems harder than it should be, EQing doesn't work at all, and you can't phrase if your life depended on it?
...I feel like throwing my 1200s out the door...it's so discouraging cuz after spinning consistently for over a year and half, and learning new things all the time to realize that you still suck.
Anybody else?

Haha, don't worry man, it happens to everyone.

Let me tell you, what's even worse is finding a recording you made a long time ago and realizing it sounds better than how you practiced today!! :whip:

But DJ'ing is dialectical like anything else... there are good times and there are bad times. You can't have something always good.

Think of it this way - for every crappy transition you make, you will also have a perfect one. It's like a law of nature.

:D

So don't be discouraged. Just keep on practicing.

yeah idd it happens to everybody... I got 2 passions: Dj'ing and Producing.. If I have a bad day at Djing, I switch to producing.. If my producing is ed up --> Djing :)

Like said before: it happens to everybody.. When u r in it -> Go outside, take a break, do something else that clears your mind :)

it will come back :)

Argh, I know what you mean. I try to relax, but I've been tempted to destroy my turntables in so many cruel and unusual ways, it's not even funny. And let me tell you something else: Records do not make good frisbees! But yeah, like others have said, take a breather, go chill with some buds, then hit the decks some other time. You'll find it'll sharpen your skills even more when you take a break, relax, and come back.

Not really a veteran dj, but I'll answer anyway.. I'm been feeling that way lately, I got a bunch of new tracks during the past month and put together a tracklist for a new promo cd. This past week I finished the list and started trying to mix it all. I'm through around 5 takes now and I keep ing it up..it's so frustrating. Problem is that I know I can mix, but I think my ty TTs are holding me back. It's not easy to make an airtight mix when you're fighting your tables to keep things matched. I won't give up though, I just want this one to be mixed tight and I might just have to keep at it; maybe after take 100 in 3 months I'll have it finished...:(

Lol...i was in the exact same situation as as you. Here's my tracklist(back then)
Sonorous - Second Sun(Mirco de Govia remix)
Above & Beyond - Far From In Love(Shane 54 OnSpec remix)
Veit - Sky(Magik Muzik remix)
Tiesto - Obsession(Filterheadz remix)
Midway - Monkey Forest
Anarctica - Illusion
GTR - Mistral
Vertigo - Under Dark Skies(??? remix)
Eon - Pocket Damage
Sun Decade - I'm Alone(Ronski Speed remix)
Flutlicht - The Fall(Deep Fall mix)
Second Sun - Empire(PvD TPOD remix)

For some reason I'd ALWAYS up on Sky...never could get past that point. Gave up. Realized also that my tracklist looked really easy and obvious(huge tunes one after the other...)
Maybe I'll chill for a bit then hit the decks once my new package arrives...thanks ya'll.

off days suck.

i have broken headphones because of them before. then i got good and stopped breaking things. i just stop and come back to it later.

but doing the same mixes over and over and over again will do that to ya though. so i recommend not doing it.
