What is wrong with the music industry

I just want to say that the music industry is getting worse. There are more remakes then original matterial and swearing is now the essential ingredient to make a pop song. And also why is controversy the way of making a hit record e.g. TATU or Eminem.

This is why trance is much better then any form of music, apart from Scotter.

obviously because these ppl have never listened to trance...

that's why they are so stupid ;)

Controversy has always been around, it's nothing new, look at elvis.
Swearing in a pop song?, I don't think (for example) kylie swears, also you only really hear it in hip hop, you probably notice it more because hip hop is quite popular right now.

"Scooter" indeed sucks I agree with that.

remakes, yes that is stupid really.

Heres a clue why music is going down the pan :

££££-$$$ Greed ££££-$$$

All that pop idol e is turning music into a remake factory. :whip:

I don't mind pop if it's new and original.

I don't let it bother me, I don't listen to the radio with the exception of classic rock stations and I don't watch mtv. I get my new music the good old fashioned way -- through word of mouth & recommendations.

I big MONEY factory! The only thing they care about is making money, I think that's a bad evolution. I think only 15% goes to the artist itself!

According to the RIAA, M P 3 :D
Take this out of the equation and all their woes will be solved!!

The industry needs a paradigm shift. Currently it's stuck in a groove of "produce CD, promote CD, then distribute CD" -- I defy anyone to show that they do anything else (besides lawsuits). What the industry needs to do to shake off it's woes is update their thinking; start doing things differently.

People don't want to shell out $30 for an album they might not like, the trend is more towards singles. Sell more singles! Offer them for download at a reasonable price! Throw in extras - people aren't going to pay $2-3 a song when they can fire up Kazaa and get exactly the same thing for free.

How to do this? I dunno, I'm not in marketing. I'm sure they have better thinkers than me. Sorry bout the rant though :D

I think the corporate music industry has sucked for a long time, as long as I've been alive at least. There have been periods where the music has been more tolerable for my tastes, but I don't think the overall way the industry works has been changed much over the years.

Sure, there are fewer major labels that control more now, but the overall business philosophy of the big guys has always been the same, make or find a star (possibly a star that pushes the envelope in some way minorly), push them as hard as you can for x number of years, and then toss them to the curb for the next big thing as soon as they've run their course.

If the corps really want to start making more money they'd drop the prices on their CDs (and DVDs, but that's a whole other issue :D) to a *reasonable* level that would actually encourage people to go out and buy it to get the packaging rather than what you have now, where new units are priced way out of line with what's neccessary to turn a reasonable profit. It costs less than $1 to make a CD, complete with packaging and crystal case, so who's going to believe the poor corp who tells them that it should suddenly be worth $15-20 once it's shipped to a store? Does anyone honestly believe that it'd be bad for business to make new CDs $5? I can guarantee you that if prices were lower people would be much more receptive to buying units, which in turn means more word of mouth, and even more sales.

On the quality music side of the coin, corporations only care about making money, and you can't really expect anything out of them. Good music is almost always through independent channels, small labels, and word of mouth is always the best way to find out about worthwhile new stuff. But most people here already know that, so I'll save my breath :p
