The movie is great, and the book is even better. Fear and Loathing is gonzo journalism at its best! Much Respect to the author/main character, Dr. Hunter s. Thompson.
By the way, if want to hear the real Hunter S. Thompson speak and rant, listen to:
Paul Oakenfold - Nixon's Spirit
It's not really much of a tune, and Hunter's rant doesn't really make much sense, but definitely worth a listen. |

Yes, this story is a prime example of gonzo journalism, which the main character, author Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, pioneered. Gonzo journalism is basically where the author reports on a certain subject or event by putting themself right in the middle of it. Thompson's first major breakthrough came when he rode with the Hell's Angels, a famous homicidal motorcycle gang, for over a year, and documented all his experiences during that time. |

Aww, there are tit shots later in the movie! Watch really cloasely when teh main character nearly OD's in the hotel room. When his friend, the attourney, turns into the satanic creature, he turns around. Then the main character screams "BIG BEAUTIFUL HAIRY !" and squeezes these giant tis that grew on the monster's back.

I own the DVD and the book. Both are incredible, but the book is definatly better! When you read the book you sort of understand how it can be a true story, which it actually is. Depp does an amazing job playing Thompson, and even looks EXACTLY like him. The book goes into much more depth than the movie and the manuscript is taken directly from the audio tapes Thompson made during all that happening.:eyespop: One chapter in the book even has the tape directly put into print. Weird ass chapter.
Fear and Loathing is definatly my favorite book I've ever read and one of my top 3 movies. Hunter S. Thompson is one of my favorite writers too.
Anybody read "Fear and Loathing in America"? or "Hells Angels" or any of his other books. Just as much of a head trip! |
