for me it is clearely gabriel and dresden.

i think the also the track choice does affect (my opinion) because with andain beautifull things and motorcycle - as the rush comes (ooh this one) i already dream one his set.

avb was also not bad but Second position, with the great solarstone vs scott bond - 3 earth.

I have Ashley Casselle's EM on the Hub, feel free to leech! :D

It does more than "it" for me because the mix is just so intelligent. Ashley has demonstrated that a DJ's role actually encompasses so much more than just picking out tracks in order and mixing them together. I think he had put in a really huge amount of effort into making that 2 hours a musical kalaiedoscope (instead of just your conventional 4/4), and roped in other studio people to help as well.. this EM, to me, was extra special because Ashley was courageous enough to challenge the boundaries, and in so doing, dare I say, redefined them.

Just look at what Ashley has done with this EM- it's got a little of everything, really.. mellow at the beginning, breaks coming in next, melodies weaving effortlessly in and out.. constantly surprising us.. all of this culminating in that creepy voice-over sequence layering over a chillout track with break beats from a third track all rolled into one moment of musical bliss.. and choosing to end it all with a 70s disco-inspired classic to finish it all off.. it was just an amazing musical journey to me.

Gabriel and Dresden's mix is really good because I think I'd go absolutely crazy if I heard it in a club tomorrow, but for sheer studio brilliance and musical competence, it's definitely Ashley Casselle for Essential Mix of the year so far. :) And let's admit it, that Missy Elliot moment just ruined it for G&D. Sigh.

IMHO Armin was boring.

G&D did it forme (heh, what a suprise)
Moshic comes a close second

haven't heard the Ashley one or the High Contrast one -- now def. gonna have a listen to both!

NICE f'en review of Ashelys! You should be his promoter! :p
Re: the quote above, I LIKED that part, just because it added something DIFFERENT to the mix, something unexpected that just made you look up and say -- WHOA.
