This thing is a horrible piece of crap, with horrifying vocals and god awful production. It hasn't caused me anything but suffering for the painful couple of minutes I was waiting for her to shut the
fuck and hear if the production would move anywhere. It didn't. Worst piece of junk I've heard so far this year.
Rating: -42. |
It's live ffs, it's not going to be the world's greatest production and have note perfect vocals....
Imo, I can't wait for the studio mix, the rip gives only really the feeling of power in the track... it's gonna be great ! |

I don't care what it is. Being live doesn't make it any less scary. I'll judge it any way I want.

Feeling? Power? It's appalling! I highly doubt it will be great. Quite possibly less scary, but far from great.
Rating changed: -38, just for you mate. :p |

While I still think Nyana is a marginal, not-so-worthy track, I've been considering the fact that this was a live performance.
And for a live performance, this really wasn't that bad. I think some minds are going to change once we get ahold of a mastered studio version. Possible 2003 anthem indeed. |

If everyone thought like u did, trance music would get boring with same floaty, airy vocals on everything. Her voice is one of the reasons the song is what it is: INDIVIDUAL
why is it people with closed minds always feel the need to open their mouths? |
Look, maybe I wrote what I was REALLY trying to say wrongly, OK? Let me at least try and clear things up.
1st of all, she may have a beautiful voice, period. She may have a beautiful voice when this song is recorded as a vinyl/cd/whatever. But, from hearing this sample, her voice, IMHO, a) doesn't sound like it would go well in a 'trancy'-sounding song, period. Also, b) it just doesn't go well with this particluar song. I will admit that it gets increasingly better towards the end with the more powerful-sounding lyrics, and that is fine by me. But, from what I can tell so far, and Tiesto and Rain will have to prove otherwise, the way in which she sings combined with the way her actual voice sounds just doesn't belong in this song, or any trance record for that matter.
Now as far as Jan and Nicole don't sound good live, I can't contest that for i have never had the pleasure of hearing them live. I can only go by the countless hits that the two of them have had on 12". Furthermore, and regardless of what you think about the "same floaty vocals," what do you think makes trance...TRANCE???? Look up the very definition of trance. Does a woman's voice such as this fit in that description? Now, if you were speaking of a dirtier, darker, more prog tune, I can see where you'ld have a leg to stand on with the whole "trance would get boring with the same floaty, airy vocals." But the fact remains that Tiesto is a proven Dutch-style trance producer, and in that particluar style, the more floaty, airy vocals (if any) JUST FIT.
Besides, who needs vocals anyway!?!?!? With your logic, I could turn around and say "trance music would get boring if no songs ever had vocals" when some (most??) of the greatest trance songs made don't have a HINT of vocals in them. I would think it's safe to say that most trance songs, good or bad, don't have vocals. With that said, trance artists have proven time and time again that 'the same old thing'..........drum roll........WORKS.So what kind of logic is that which you use??? You state firmly that if things in trance music stay the same, it will become boring. Yet, the basic principal behind trance music (i.e. mostly 4/4, dream-like, TRANCY, etc) hasn't changed in how many years??? Yet you called MEEEEE close-minded, when you yourself have shut yourself out to the very notion of why trance works, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." IMO, trance has never been "broke" so why fix it? I'm not saying have evvvvverrryyy siiinnnggllleeeee song be dreamy, light, fluffy-cloud crap, either. But what I am saying is stay true to the roots of trance, and most of all, stick with what works.
I will admit that I was waaay too harsh in my criticism of Rain, especially considering I haven't heard the studio version of the song, but I am replying to what I have to work with....that audio clip. Once the release comes out, I will give a more thorough, in-depth, and NICER ;) review of it.
As far as my "close-mindedness," before you reply with such a statement about me, maybe you need to click this link to know who you are talking about. Click on that link and if it worked properly you should be on the 4th page of that thread, and look at my reply to people flaming tiesto. And again....you called me close-minded. :whip: |

you're a head, the only form of trance doesnt exist purely as uplifting and melodic, trance can be dark and it can be dirty and it doesnt have to be progressive (read: boring) by being that.
you're comment, 'stick with what works' precisely points out what everyone has been trying to say. THE SONG IN ITS CURRENT FORM DOESNT STICK WITH WHAT WORKS, THATS WHAT MAKES IT GOOD.
sorry if some of us are sick and ing tired of happy happy joy joy im high on emotional trance that makes me cry like a ing baby.
if you have listened to recent tiesto work you would know his style has been going darker and darker, going away from uplifting melodic, as he has said himself numerous times in interviews, that style is becoming overused and stale. take a look at conjure one - tears from the moon (tiesto's isos mix) and you'll see trance doesnt have to be light airy fairy uplifting with soft or whiney female vocals. it can be dark and powerful.
you can't say that her voice doesnt belong in this track or any trance track, its not for you to say. do you even know who the you are talking about here? tiesto. dont you think that if someone, anyone for matter, were to make this work, one of those people would be tiesto? i reckon so. how can you say her voice just doesnt go with this track, when the only version you have is badly mixed (between track and live vocals), has an absolutely load of crowd noise and is only 5 minutes long? thats an ill-informed opinion if i've ever seen one.
the track, from the tmf sample/rip i have, absolutely rocks. almost everything (in terms of elements) sounds quality, unfortunately the actual quality of sound from the recording isnt great, but it still is on repeat for me.
take a seat son, dont make me come back and thoroughly hammer your next post with a horde of quotes. |

1/How was i supposed to know that, i'm not a mind reader. I'm not gonna apoligise for taking something you said at face value. Ever heard the expression 'a jury can only be good as the evidence before it'? Well i think you realise my position considering you yourself said: "but I am replying to what I have to work with"
2/Fair enough that is your opinion and you are entitled to it but there others who would back me up in saying ur talking e as far as they are concerned. Many ppl regard 'yet another day' as one of the best trance songs of last year. yet that was sung by an old, probably balding, man with one of the gruffest sounding voices i've ever heard on a trance record. Another example DMB - space between us (tiesto mix)....nuff said!
3/I'm beginning to wonder if you have even heard tiesto's album. Yes he is dutch but his album is not filled only 'floaty, airy' uplifting songs. Besides, if u listen to ten more carefully u'd see the lyrics are not about how wonderful love is etc. They are clearly angst ridden. The shout, angry style suits the mood. The music has agressive tones in itself, especially if u compare it something like southern sun.
4/I would NEVER say that all songs need vocals...i think your going off the point and don't feel the need to write anymore on that point.
I will say it again: "why do people with closed minds always feel the need to open thier mouths? |

| seems like a good tune is going on on the background of all that crowd noise. i can hardly hear anything apart from some great synths at the start and some vocals that doesn't sound as horrible as everyone's saying. |

that was worth me reading through this whole damn thread :-)
Skin rules and its great that Tiesto is trying out different things. I think her voice will perfectly suit this banging tune :)
Live vocals, especially Dance music, never sound good.
Take Avril Lavigne for example, not that im trying to say she is any good :haha:
Her singing live is :nervous: :nervous: !!
I can sing better than her fs. |
