Update on the Behinger DX-700

Alright TAs, awhile back we were talkin about this mixer....stats have come out and from what I know (which is LITTLE) about the DJM 600, this Behinger 700 could be classified as a knock off of the 600 instead of the 500. Correct me if I am wrong.

Lol...I was just about to post this topic too!
I'm shopping around for mixers, and I noticed from first glance that the Behringer looked awfully similar to the DJM 500/600 series...I was likke, WTF..not to mention the price tag, the Berhinger, if it says what it claims to be, is literally a steal.
What are the differences, i. e why would somebody want to buy a DJM 600 over the VX700 for almost 500 dollars more? |

a few ppl awhile back said the name was the difference.......then others say that Pioneer is more reliable than Behinger. |

| Behringer is fairly new, but it seems that alot of their products are extremely decent for the price they are sold! |

I can't vouch for this new Behringer mixer, but I do have a VMX-300 (formerly their top mixer).
I've had it for many months, and it still works great. Although - you really do get what you paid for. What do I mean? Read on.
1) The BPM counters are useless. Tried them out just for curiosity and found them extremely lacking. Taped over them on day 1, and haven't taken it off since.
2) I have noticed in some of my recorded mixes a little bleeding from a channel. I haven't made a systematic search of which one it is (either channel 2 or 3) but I know it's happening. It's kind of hard to detect, I haven't pinpointed it yet but it's there.
3) The first channel is weird because if I use it as a phono channel, the volume distorts strangely. Whether this is a fader problem or circuitry problem I don't know, but it happens. Because of this I don't use the first channel for anything other than microphone. (incredibly rarely)
4) The knobs have softened a little, a.k.a. worn down a bit. What I mean is that they are a little wiggly. This is not that big of a deal though - they still feel sturdy enough. Just when I compare the eq knobs on channels 2 and 3 to, say, the unused ones on channel 1, I can definitely tell the difference.
5) On the above note, the fader on channel 2 feels a little tougher now, as in it's a little harder to move. I think it might be crapping out sooner or later, though I can't tell exactly when by far. Then again they did say that the faders would last for an ungodly 100,000+ times of use or so.
Anyway to conclude, the Behringer mixers seem to me to be PERFECT for the starting dj (which I was when I got it), but for a professional or semi-professional, or anyone who wants strictly quality equipment, I would recommend against them. Get an A&H or Vestax 275 or Rane or Pioneer or whatever. YMMV |

Oops I didn't emphasize this.
For the PRICE, the Behringer mixers are GREAT and simply CANNOT BE BEAT. I mean, take a crappy Gemini mixer for the same price as a VMX-300, and see if it even lasts 1/10th of what the Behringer will give you. Not to mention the difference in features. :D |

Hey Bender, I won't say what is right or wrong for you, because it's definately a personal choice.
I bought Technics, yet "skimped" on a mixer, I ended up buying the Behringer VMX-200 for about $250 CND. I've been nothing but happy with it, and now I see that they are putting out an obvious rip-off of the Pioneer.
That said, if it's $270US, there's a good chance that it's not as high quality as the Pioneers, which I believe go for about $1600 or more CND?
With such a price difference, the Behringer is almost disposable (depending on your cashflow), you could probably buy 2, 3 or even 4 of them in the same amount of money as the Pioneer.
The chances of me shelling out $1600 right now for a mixer are slim, but I could definately seeing my next mixer being this new Behringer model once I outgrow my current mixer. |
