WHAT to do with my future....???

yea...i got accepted to some uni's i applied to..for business.and info tech..but right now i do NOTHING when it comes to school work...i literally dont spend over 5 min doing hmwk..i do nothing..so i duno how i would survive UNI first of all..
and as a second point..Music is my #1 priority..whether that is producing mixing..listening..anything music related...i will also go to a music institution for comp assisted production..and synth production bla bla bla...so that is what REALLY interests me..but of course..that would sound funny to my parents..since u know..
a uni degree is what it is after all..
of course i COULD somehow..pull off these 4 years in uni..and get a business degree but during that time get involved in the music industry/business..
ahh i duno..the point is i dont do anything school related now..and next year il have to work my ass off...which wont happen

many have similar dillemas to yours. Many people go through uni studying it/accounting/law, and only work hard enough for the grade, all the while feeling they should be doing something completely different. I myself am studing management information systems, and more than anything want to direct that degree towards music production, but don't have the funds or the parental support.
I have reached a point of dreading going to class, but know I'll continue with my degree...
i am sick of everyone wasting their youth on university just because it seems to be the right path. College IS NOT FOR EVERYONE, and the US seems to pose it as the main course everyone should take. Taking a year off should be a possibility, or working first, instead of slaving away at courses that might not have any relevance to your future. Get into the music business right now, and get experience, which will look much better on your resume.
And even if you don't make it, you'll never have regrets down the line. |

honestly you should do what makes YOU happy...follow your gut- this is your life and no one else's...talk to your parents and see what they think

If you find a university course you intend to take interesting, you probably will find time to study. If you just want uni degree to have a good payed job later, then it's gonna be much more difficult to go through it, although it will not be impossible. But really, if you're not interested into the subjects one bit, then it's best for you to screw that or to look at other courses. Maybe you'd find some music-related course more interesting.
The music business is much more risky, and it's usually a short-term involvment. If you want to get into the music business you must be pretty good at it, and you must be pretty sure it will work out good. Take for example my idiotic cousin who inherited a house which he sold in order to gather money to make his own album. It sold in much less than 100 copies, and he's now living in a rented basement. Also, you must realize you most likely won't be DJing much longer after you pass 30 years of age. So if you don't make enough money to live comfortably off it in the first few years, you'll have to do some job afterwards, and that job will greatly depend on your formal education. But still, you don't have to finish uni in 4 years, you can stretch it out for a year or two longer. That should ease the burden, so that then you'll have enough time to try yourself out in the music business too and see how it works out. |

Werd. My thoughts exactly, without the idiotic cousing thing.
In addition to the above post, I think you could also try going though university with a major in music and a minor in something traditional. In this way you satisfy your parents AND if you don't make it in the music industry you always have the knowledge from your fall-back minor dealy.

The real question is how the hell did you get accepted to multiple universities on that little work? I need to do well on both of my ap classes, and take at least 3 next year to even have a shot at a good college :(
A bit off topic, just frustrated with ap exams coming up i guess :( |

| Take a year off before college ... after college, whatever. Just make sure you actually go to college and learn something practical that you can use later in life. Afterwards you can try doing something that actually interests you and if you fail ... well then you have that oh so practical degree as a fallback to make a living. Besides college is easy and you get to drink a lot. |

thanx for the replies ...i guess what il do is probably start this degree in university..then see where i can switch to .. towards music..or music related..and as for someone that asked how i got accepted with this little work? i seriously dont know..i didnt even go to grade 12..i have some 20%'s in oac's on my transcript..yet pulled it off this year with NO work..haha...
everyone keeps asking...WHATS DA SECREEET!?!?

thats very easy to say and sound like a very good idea... but you also have to consider that you have to pay about 15k per semester... |
