Dance/Electronica magazines?...

I took a trip to my local bookstore a few days ago and was looking under the 'music' section to find quite a lot of dance/electronica/dj magazines. Most of them being printed in the UK. Rather then shell out the cash for some magazine simply based on its cover. I was wondering if any TA's has had any luck finding a good electronica/dj magazine? Club life... New releases... dj stuff... Something that can keep me up to date in the dance music community.
I would like nothing more than to cuddle up with some dance music literature everynight before I go to bed. :) |

Barnes & Noble in the US had a magazine called "Mixer" published in NYC. I haven't found one since the beginning of the year though. I assume B&N discontinued it. It sells for about $4(US), and I was a regular buyer. I guess I should have suscribed.
Also, DMA (Dance Music Authority) was one of my other favorites. A couple Dance music stores near Chicago have it, but it's also a tough find. Haven't purchased one of these for a while either. It does feature some trance, but mostly US mainstream dance. Also sells for about $4(US)

The three uk ones that come to mind are Mixmag, Muzik and DJ magazine - at least those are the only ones I ever buy. Many people will say that they dont read these magazines because they dont want to be told what to think - but i suppose any sort of media 'tells' you what to think.
Mixmag is probably the best of the three - its by far the most trance orientated of the 3 - and has articles about (UK) clubnights etc, track reviews.
Muzik is mostly funky house/garage, but does have some trance content. It does however try to hard to be cool and hip etc and is a bit wank.
DJ magazine is a bit e for anyone without decks, as it is pretty much constant record reviews and dj equipment reviews - its alright though.
Of those 3 mixmag is probably best. |

Mixmag is great! I love reading it. Ive been buying it every month for the last two years now. a lot of cash, but plain fun to read! It has lots of articles on clubbing, new trends, new music, hot music, club land fashion. And lots of drug articles.
They also publish their anual Drug survey in march or so. They claim its the largest drug survey in the world. Who knows. BUt the mag is a really fun, and interesting read.
Pete Tong has his own page of new music and live shows in every issue.
Take a read. cheaper to buy per issue, than to subsribe:eyespop: |

| MoS stopped printing its mag less than a yr ago. For US magazines, I would recommend URB, it covers all forms of electronic muzic as well as good hip hop in general, too bad it doesn't come with a free cd in every issue |
