is it ok to have a trance album to your name?

Just wondering isnt trance as music being better in mix Cds or have an album? I had been told that an album with trance the main genre isnt the best thing to do. I know PVD made an album with more than just trance and it did well. I know that Sasha released an album that wasnt trance as many expected and it did ok. I know Paul Oakenfold did an album with no trance in it, and even many people didnt like it it was an interesting CD. So that just reminds me to ask also why big trance djs spin trance, but try and not release an album with the genre being the main style? For that i can point Ferry Corsten. He produce pure trance under his System F project, but not under his own name. Its like he wants more respect with producing real electronic music under his name.

| Mix compilations are usually more danceable and all since they have all trance tunes, but artist albums focus more on diverse styles of tracks so its more interesting to listen to. I'd rather hear a breaks track, or ambient track, or vocal track, by a trance artist on his artist album who usually doesnt do those kinds of music. |

Mmm, a lot of people would say that ferry's productions under his own name (like punk) are less credible as 'real' music, than ones under the systm f name. |

I often find it's when artists experiment outside of their genres that some of the most interesting (not best) results take place.
For example:
P. Diddy - Let's get Ill - Not Puffy's usual style, a very interesting track but overall, a piece of IMO.
Radiohead - Kid A - Vastly different from their older stuff, but a great track nonetheless. |

I think this is a good statement. Dj's want to be able to branch out and do something new and interesting, not just for themsleves, but us too. I personally like it.
They can spin trance anytime, but they are putting loads of effort into an artist album. Why not make it more interesting for themselves? |

I understand what you saying, but i just have the feeling that the trance djs just dont feel the genre is taken serious by most people and thats why they change the style in their own(under their name) productions.
Maybe trance is just made for parties and thats all. Nothing you can listen at home. |

I dont think its to sell more records, but to be more creative. If you do trance 24hrs a day, you can get stale.
Sometimes they are just not confident enough to do something under their own name. Its impossible for us to memorize all the different alias' that DJ's use. So if a track does well, they can come out and say they did it, or if it does poorly, just let it go away. |

nah, i dont think oakey did bunkka, say, because he thought that trance wasnt seen as real music. I think he did a mainly non trance album because its likely to make more money. |

Thats strange. I tought that trance is popular all over the world. Why he tought he will sell more albums if they are not trance? |

Because trance (especially quality trance) isnt really all that popular/mainstream across the world - even in europe. I think a lot of people will dance to trance occasionally in clbus but wouldnt buy albums.
'Stary Eye Suprise' on the other hand is very mainstream, thus sells. |

I just hate when dj or producer who is said to be good go into the mainstream. Its just bad. I hate that. Most of them are doing it for the money and i like to listen to an album thats made with love to the music.
Why not the techno djs/producer dont make different sounding album than techno then? |

I don't think thats correct, but it isnt mainstream, ill give you that.
Personally, i would love to see more trance albums. I really enjoy them. |
