do the real madrid stars make more than beckham? and if so how much? cause i love to throw these figures out when people are talking about ARODs salary. where are all the UKTAs at? us americans have no idea how much these players make.

Real Madrid don't have any debts because they are bank rolled by the president of spain who is also the president of the bank of Spain who writes off all there debt. He is like the queen in England he is the only man who has the authority to write off debts.
Plus the council of Spain bought Real Madrids training ground and facilities off them for £200 million and then gave them it all straight back. It is all very dodgy!!

Real can pay any unbelievable wage to any player, keep in mind Luis figo, Zidane and Ronaldo have all won FIFA World player of year.

Well if what your saying is true then real madrid are cheating their way to glory. Debt and clever management is part of football. If he can go buying ronaldo then write off the debt then he is bascally getting him for free. thats not what owning a footy team is all about. it's about managing your money carefully and taking risks. this guy can't lose, so wheres the fairness in that.

Well, it is true that Becks' salary is 100,00 GBP per week, But he also has endorsement deals with Police sunglasses worth 1 million pounds, Brylcreem worth 1 million pounds, and then god knows what Adidas and Marks & Spncer have paid him. All this sponsorship stuff must be tacked on to his huge sponsorship deals in Japan. He and Victoria do adverts for cosmetics firms, etc. Then Beckham has a special image rights deal with M.U.F.C.

No player at United sells more shirts than Beckham. Even if you take half of for taxes, I believe you have to take off the weeks he doesn't play. That is to say, he makes 100,000 GBP per week minus taxes, minus the weeks that the Premiership season does not run. So those two factors drop it considerably.

By the way, last year, Manchester United Football Club and New York Yankees Baseball Association signed an unprecedented deal representing the two HIGHESt NET WORTH franchises in the world (though United has seen their worth estimates plummet from two years ago when they were on top of the world). The details of this deal are unclear, but it seems to involve mutual exposure in their respective homelands where the sports aren't so big yet. But more than this, it states that NYY and MU are hugely recognizable brands, and the licensing distribution is no doubt involved.

Then again, these number are huge. I believe NIKE just sunk about $310 million for a 10 year kit deal with United.

I also read today that Beckham will probably be going to Real Madrid. Their payroll will skyrocket now, although they don't really have to pay any money.

That's so stupid that a team can do that. It makes all of their trophys as legitimate as Carl Lewis's Olympic medals. What if FIFA disqualified them for "financial irregularities?" Although I'm sure Real's backers are too powerful to have that happen.

thanks for the info... thats what i was looking for. BUTTTT... when you add in bonuses (not sure if footballers get bonuses) for making winning championships and whatnot, that makes up alot of the missed weeks.

and also, about the Real Madrid situation. thats like the New York Yankees in America. the yankees will actually sign players just so their competition can't. they can afford it because they are so popular. they DID NOT need hideki matsui, but they just did not want anyone else to have him. i HATE the yankees. of course their gonna win every year when the payroll is 180 million and the closest team before that is around 110 million.

Apparently the reason real madrid want to pay 37 million for david beckham is because he's worth an estimated 100 million in revenue from the asian market alone. If madrid get him they can then take a large chunk of the asian market from manchester utd.

Football players get bonuses for everything. If they start the game, make an assist or goal, keep their nets clean, win or draw a game. Of course special bonuses when winning a title/cup.

I know Alex Rodriguez makes $26 million a year, making him the highest paid baseball player. But, that puts him nowhere near soccer (sorry, i'm from the US :toothless ) players. I read in a previous thread that David Beckham makes 100,000 pounds a week. i used a currency converter to figure that out and it works out to $82 million a year. so i was just wondering, are there any higher paid athletes than him? and who are the highest paid stars in each sport?

Well, 100 000 pounds a week only makes 5,2 million pounds a year, and that's nowhere near $82 million:toothless Actually it's approximately $8,4 million so I guess you just forgot a comma:p

Jordan used to make roughly around 200 mil with indorsements, Tiger I thinks gets mad endorsement loot also....

Are there salary caps at all in soccer? Here in the U.S. most leagues other than baseball have salary caps which keep a team from spending a certain amount of money per year in payroll.
