| i must say wasnt too impressed with howells last night.. it was too up & down thruout the whole night.. he would build it up then explode, then bring it down and build again but not subtley.. and everytime he brought it down, it lost some energy cuz the tracks didnt coincide very well with eachother..too much variasions in basslines, and it was just too all over the place so it didnt have that 'complete' feel to the set.. his mixing wasnt too solid either.. there was one really bad transition i've witnessed and that brought the energy down alot.. i mean the crowd didnt seem to care that much, but i seen it in his eyes.. he was goin ' !' also the crowd thinned out dramatically from 5 to 7.. up until 5 it was pretty packed, but from 5 to about 6, 6:30, mad ppl left.. i dunno, maybe it wasnt one of his good nights or maybe i heard too much hype around his name.. whatever the case, the night was just ok.. his mixing was ok, tracks he played was ok, and the arrangement/programming was also ok.. i prefer sander over howells as of now, but i will checkout howells again cuz it aint fair to judge after one performance.. sorry amit.. i so wanted to be all like OMG !!! HOWELLS OWNED !! I DIE !!!!!!!!! heheh maybe next time:) |

To up and down. When I asked people about this they told me that that is dannys style. For most of the night it seemed as if he was playing for himself and not for us. I remember several times when my friends would turn to me and say this is sick and then the next song would be breaky and slow wich doesnt mix well with hard synth house.
Personally I believe dj's who do not do any drugs at all are the most pleasurable to listen to. Case in point.... John 00' (awsome set) Mat hardwick (awsome set). John 00 especially took us all on a journy. His set went somewhere. With dj's who get banged up like howells and S&D you have long points where there to ed up to mix so they just fade in and fade out. That's how howelles mixed it at times last night... fade in ... fade out.... |

i dont know what u guys were talking about.... danny was dropping phatt tracks all nite long, the crowd was feelin it... and the breaks he had, were just awesome... he did build his set, he started slow with house then went into tech house/prog ... its too bad i was in NY a limited time, otherwise i wanted to stay the whole nite and hear him spin... on another note, it was my first time at arc... man that club is phatt as ... no one is drinking so ppl are pretty much there for the music and dancing... so me and matt had a blast at danny howells.... especially "Nobody listens to techno, lets go.... BUT I DOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!" <<-Matt

i dont know about this comment john cuz sasha is known for getting hammered before, during, and after the show yet is the best outhere to layer sounds and make it sound beautiful.. a real journey in his sets if u ask me.. and i didnt know howells gets banged up? |

yes i agree with this. although i liked the beats, the mixing was just an odd choice. i had a good time none the less. the thing that caught me the most off guard was the mix of that david bowie song 'heroes' (do not know exact name of the mix). i love that song, but i felt, in my eyes, that it just did not fit in. and the song went on for too long.
nice to meet you Taub (finally USB yay!) and Butterfly.
for those that have seen howells many times, as this was my first time seeing him, does he normally spin like that? |

he drinks a lot, i dont know about anything else, but he looked healthier than i have ever seen him this weekend.
and as for the music, that was actually a real good night for him. i dont disagree that he isn't the best dj. what makes him so special is the varierty in genres that he spins. it is like a series of mini-sets of different genres. the crowd was much bigger than usual, with a fair share of s until about 6. it always empties out around when the breaks start but the ppl who stay are the ppl you want to party with and he just killed it the last hour till close. it was great to see tae, akko, john, michelle, tom, lisa, matt, and billu. hopefully you'll give danny another try now that you know what to expect. |

ehh everyone that drinks, drink while they spin.. including myself:)
and i def. will chekout danny again now i kinda know his style.. he's like the danny tenaglia of europe..except he spins more breaks than DT.. DT spins all genre but lil more focused on house, while DH is more prog & tech-housey with breaks:) |

I saw for a small time about a year 1/2 ago he looke 350% different then he does know. Howells is known for doing alot of coke. At times that night he would disapear like a jack in the box. Then pop up and put the next record on lol. |
