| how do you make an .iso file? |

| use a program called cdrwin and click on the 3rd option to the left. type in a file name (can be anything) in the filename field, choose the files you want to iso as well. and that's all. in most cases you'll be isoing from a cd. so yeah. there's another option to iso from your HD. it's kinda hard to explain really. :) |

thanks...i don't have cdrwin, i have nero...but after reading your reply i checked nero and you can also iso with it...
...but, i have one more question...what does an iso file do? by isoing, are you compressing a file or group of files or are you simply grouping the files together? |

ah yes, nero can do it too. :) i forgot.
isoing is essentially writing a disc image of a cd and at the same time creating what is called a cue sheet that tells the cd burning software EXACTLY where to put all the trackz if need be. |

hmm..what i'm want to do is to create a CD that will automatically run a setup file upon inserting it into my CD rom drive.
i have CD's that automatically run a setup file when i put them into my CD rom drive. can an iso do this? or am i totally of track...no pun intended. |

| that is assuming that the cd you're trying to iso is an original cd of something. like let's say you have win98, when you insert the win98 cd it'll autorun. if you iso that win98 cd and burn it, it'll act like the EXACT replica of the original. |

| i just downloaded a copy of windows xp (or at least i think it's windows xp...it's an .exe file about 50MB...so i'm not quite sure, seems kinda small)...i want to make a cd that will autorun the .exe file when i insert it into my drive. if i iso it, will it do this...or do i have to make some kind of autoexec.bat file? |
