It is called conservation of resources.

Obviously, you want to optimize your TP efficiency, by using the least amount possible, that will still leave your hands clean.

Using not enough -getting your hands dirty- isn't good, but neither is using wayy to much (lemme grab an astronomically large figure here), say 24 sheets/ wipe

I am unaware of his statement concerning soap. We never bothered to ask.. you know, ignorance is bliss :)

my indian roommate -this is a report from the facts, I am not saying all Indian people do this or that it may even be common practise, as he was a weirdo- did not want to chip in for toilet paper, because "I do not use any".

From what my other roommates have researched, they (his mom lived with us for a while.. don't ask) used a glass of water and the left hand...

ahh but this is what they do in india..... that is why they don't shake hands.... they kinda like put their palms together and do like a head nod/bow thingy as a greeting.

Do0d that's nasty... sounds like a breeding ground for all sorts of diseases. Even if they don't shake hands they probably touch the same objects.

i understand.. i heard that many people from Arabic countries do consider the left hand the 'impure one' for the same reason.

Nonetheless, i think of it -generally- as nasty. I am not someone who wants to force my culture on other people, but i think that people/ cultures can learn from other cultures. TP is a good thing imho
