Okay in summery this time, you need synths, drum machines, mixing sequencing, recording systems/devices. Samplers are also useful, along with wave editors and fx units.

You can either go with software (cheap), hardware (expensive) or a mixture of the two.

Have a look at a program called Reason, by propellerhead software. Its a total studio package for the computer. All you need is a computer and a sound card (get a good one with latency below 10ms. 24 bit recording is also nice)

You have to decide if you want to use softare or hardware. I would advise starting off with software. Its cheaper and programs like reason are easier to use. If you can't afford reason, have a look for a program like fruity loops.

Becasue I can't be bothered typing everything again, here are some things for you to look up.

Reason 2, propellerhead software
Fruity Loops 3
Cubase SX, Steinberg software
Logic, Emagic software (for mac)
(reason & fruity are studio packages, cubase and logic are VST sequencers)

Soundforge, by Sonic Foundry
Wave Lab, by Steinberg
(these are wave editors)

Softsynths by Native Instruments (have a look at the thread above "best vst instruments"

Hardware synths by:
- Access
- Novation
- Nord
- Waldorf
- Korg

That'll do you for a start.

if you ask me, the best way to start from scratch is fruityloops
check the new fruity - Fruity Loops Studio

www.flstudio.com

anyway, if you choose fruity or any other software
even if you dont feel like to, you still have to read the manual (not all of it ofcourse on the start, but until you realy feel you understand the basics and abit more), and you need to check demo tunes and see if you undersatnd everything and how's everything done there. you can even try duplicating parts of demo tracks by yourslef, and then see why your stuff soudns defferently... and them you can discover new things you warn't aware of before. ...
also as a beginner myself, i tryed understanding Reason's and Fruity's manual, and fruity was much easier for me....
but thats only me
:p

good luck anyway:)
