I'm sure you know Nvidia is a 3d graphics manufacturer in the computer and gaming industry. Nvidia holds the pole position in the markets right now, not the mention it bought out 3dfx, its arch-competitor.
So now, Nvidia is getting into the chipset industry like Via, Ali, AMD, Intel, and SiS. So far, Nvidia's nForce chipset is blazing light years ahead of all other chipset manufacturers. Some of the technology they are incorporating are:
Dual DDR channels [for the popular DDR SDRAM]
Integrated Graphics Processor [using the geforce 2 mx core]
Audo Processing Unit [integrated, dolby 5.1 sound]
you can check out the article:
Nvidia nForce
They're out to crush the competition with little prio experience in the chipset business.
just imagine, in 10 years we could be driving Nvidia cars!!  |

| Wow sounds good. I'm in serious need of an upgrade. Should I get this maybe? I wonder if it will be 100% compatible? |

It is a garguantan step in chipset technology, and AMD is going to reap the full benefits of it. Nvidia is making the chipsets for AMD processors only. The motherboard designers have a working mobo copy of the chipsets already! Asus and Abit are the few.
The Geforce 2 mx core will run at 6x AGP [2x runs at 87 mhz, just imagine what 6x will do], and has external 4x AGP slot. That core is running the fastest of all current 3d vid cards.
The integrated audio has better specs than even the current sound cards today. you can even connect your comp to your home theatre system, cuz its equivalent to DVD quality.
WE can kiss PCI bus goodbye, it be will be replaced by Hypertransport technology. (?)
Nvidia will provide one driver for all components of the nForce chipset; bus; ethernet; audio; video; and so on.

well, it's a hot candidate for people who want to upgrade, cuz it sure looks very promising. Nvidia is doing a shakedown of all the chipset makers out there to get off their fanny, especially Via. Via is a piece of trash. Via' driver updates only tries to fix the bugs, while Nvidia actually improves the performance of the drivers, instead.
as for compatibility, we have to wait for the benchmarks and testing to see if it holds up to its promises. plus, this high-end integrated solution comes with other integrated components too, like network cards. and by the looks of it, it might not be cheap. :(

hehe.. you can get it for less than 300 US now, that's with shipping - state taxes.

buy nvidia stocks, im sure its going to blossom. |

| Hypertransoprt technnology will provide an universal connection that is designed to reduce the number of buses within the system. its gonna be a high-speed, high performance point-to-point lik. heres da good ...hypertransport technologies bandwidth will be 6.4 GB/sec...imagine dat peeps |

| Thanks for the info u4ea:[soulstar]. I got your PM for those tracks you requested, but I couldn't reply as you PM box was full. Let me know what you want to do later on ok? |

We'll have to wait and see I guess. 6xAGP isn't that useful right now as 4xAGP isn't really that saturated yet anyways. Have a look at the benchmarks. But having said that it's a bit scary the thought of NVidia turning into the next Intel. BTW did everyone see the DUAL Palomino's Benchmarked Vs the usual Pee4 Xeons etc. Have a look at www.anandtech.com for the full review but basically the Dual Palys cream even the 1.7 Xeons. Wheeeeeeee!!!!
Oh and they've released the 1.4 thunderbird too. More Intel whupping! |
