Now that I have finally got a decent Sound Card I wanna start producing my own vinyl rips. The problem is that I only have a very old record player which has sound quality. I need some advice on what turntable to buy and the best way of getting a high-quality rip.
Does it matter what Turntable I get or it it just the stylus that matters? I am thinking about getting a 'Kam BDX-300 Belt Drive' which is £89 from HTFR.com and then getting a decent stylus to go with it.
Also for the headphone jack which I need to plug from the turntable to the line-in on my soundcard will I need a mixer as well?

Don't get a belt drive. these not only suck for DJing with, but also for making vinyl rips. if you get a belt drive, the pitch will drift a bit, due to the belt stretching with time and heat. so, your mp3 will eventually end up sounding a little warbly. if all you are doing is listening to them, it's not TOO bad, but if you are ever trying to use an mp3 mix program with them, or burn them on CD and mix them up, then you will be in trouble.
it all depends what kind of soundcard you got.
If your soundcard has a digital input, i would suggest this denon:

both of these have digital outputs, and will give you a good recording.
if you have a firewire input, you might be better off getting this, and an analogue table:

if all you have is an analogue input, then i would suggest getting a direct drive analogue table (any one will do, but if you plan on buying another to DJ with, i suggest you get a technics 1200SL), and use whatever phono preamp you have available to you (either your mixer input, or your stereo), and record the line out into your computer. this is how i do it, but the quality is not as good as it could be if I used a digital input.
