Have you seen maradona lately. he's an overweight cocaine addict. pele is still doing great things for world football.

If maradona was the greatest player he would never have used drugs and disgrace himself in the way he did. Sure he was unbelievably talanted but he blew that with all the scandal and the fact that he cheated england out of a world cup. (thats coming from a scot). Pele was great from start to finish..........

Besides any of these players up agianst franco baresi was the greatest ever player.

you off and die
this isnt "best athletic role model"
this is best player
like skills..i dont give a about maradona now
im saying maradona at his peak will run over pele at his peak
and again. if pele is so great he wouldve won player of the century award, and who got greatest world cup goal in history? not pele... was maradona again. thats 2 for maradona 0 for pele

wow... that is BAD.... REAL BAD. and as for haunted, that would be like saying 'babe ruth sucks compared to today's baseball players' athletes will continually get stronger, faster, and better as the years pass. so if you put the all stars of today against the all stars in the 50's, 60's and 70's, odds are the millenium team would win. in any sport.

pele played in the 58 world cup

He was 17, and it was the first of 4 world cups he had with Brazil. He was born in 1940, which means in 1951 he was 11, in 1955 he was 14. You're comments about him being limited to the 50s are wrong, he was only a kid then.

Actually FIFA conducted two polls, an internet poll and a magazine poll. The internet poll produced suspicous results (whatever you may think the vast majority of the world does not think it was Maradona). In the internet poll, Maradona recieved 56 percent of the votes, Pele just 18 percent.

The Argentinian Football Federation was accused of launching a concerted campaign to swing the vote Maradona's way. The results of FIFA's magazine poll were completely the opposite - Pele got 72 percent, second was Di Stefano with 9 percent and third was Maradona with just 6 percent.

FIFA decided to give 2 Player of the Century Awards.
