the most hated species in the worlds of sports. I, as a part of this "persecuted" minority, would like you to think a little bit the next time you call the black-wearing man in charge a "" "blinde" or anything concerning his mother or psyche. We are humans, we don't give the slightest about who's playing at home, who's currently leading or who's got the hotter cheerleaders. You gotta understand that during those 90 minutes one has to be so concentrated that he totally forgets about the "importance" of each decision or the game in genereal. As a referee one works like a machine, almost automatically judging up to 10 times a minute. And I wanna see anyone whos yelling "offsiiiiiideee" stand there and do this ing hard job for say, 20 minutes only. I think once uve gone through the experience of being under constant pressure, while having to maintain concentration of the highest order u'll change your mind about us guys, who after all, make the game possible in the first place.
think about it :happy2: |

I agree funamentally with what you're saying, but I'd like to make a few points:
Refereeing on a small level you might not care about either side, but at international level sometimes you have to wonder. I appreciate it's a difficult job but some of the most controversial (and poor) decisions from referees have come after plenty of time for thought and consultation with linesmen etc. Lastly, most criticism directed at referees is in the heat of the moment. In the premier league, there are only a few referees who I truly despise, Neale Barry being the biggest prick going at the moment. Consistently this season he has made carefully thought out decisions which have shocked and apalled everybody but the people they benefitted, he is this season's Uriah Rennie, he is an unbelievable prick. He is not fit for refereeing at this level and should see the same fate as Rennie. |

The problem simply is that one "big" referee mistake is paid attention to 10000 more than a one of the many mistakes maid by the players themselves. A striker missing an empty goal will have the crowd laugh and a bit angry but they'll forget about it 5 minutes later. A referee giving Freekick instead of Penalty in the first minute of the game, will be still held responsible for the result after the game's over. It's just the way it is.
As for Premiere League etc... I believe that, as it is the case here, all referees are judged by the national association on each weekend, receiving marks like in school, where at the end of the season u got a a list with referees staying or leaving the league they're currently in.
I made the step from Under-19 to "real" league games last year. Sure its the lowest of all leagues but still nice :toothless |

I'm a soccer referee here in calgary...
its a tough job at the high levels... needs total concentration... its hard to be a ref.. you gotta just make split decisions using judgement... its not easy though. especially when you take a goal back and you got 5000 people screaming at you |
