Kickstartin vinyl collection
View this Thread in Original format

I've seached the forums for this one and I can't find any sort of advice to do this. A redirect would work. Anyway for the question: So, lots of you now got a good number of vinyls you buy through your addictions and what have you - through periods of time : however is there a way where you can "kickstart" your vinyl collection by buying many at a time "in bulk". Will record shops give you deals? Any advice on this subject would be very helpful.:D

Replayrecords.com do these deals. They call them pre-packs...

How it works is, they randomly pick 25 releases they got in stock (according to them) and you only pay 25 for the lot. Down-side obviously is that you don't know what tunes your buying. I've never used it before, but its very cheap.

heyy that looks nice. Thanks for showing that to me. When I eventually make my order I'll say how it is. Anyways... since you're in the UK... lol would it be possible to get that monster pack? (Mega Mega Pack) As you can see I'm in Canada. However that would be asking alot, wouldn't it? The shipping must be mega mega as well.

That monster pack is 1000 vinyl's, thats going to be a huge weight of tunes to be shipped over to you.

REST OF WORLD SHIPPING

Rest Of World shipping costs are dependant on country, service required and items included in the order. Our Pre-Packs are very heavy and therefore attract a higher shipping cost, however we try to provide the best value services. If you require an explanation of shipping costs for an order please contact us.

Just email them telling them you want that pre-pack and ask them what the shipping cost would come to.

no doubt it will be done:toocool:
JohnSmith
why would you do this?

buy the tunes you want to spin.. I already regret the 4 or 5 tracks out of 100 or so i have that i only bought because i "thought" they'd be good. I'd never go buying a random bunch of records.

but, what i DO do is buy a lot of records (10 or more) all at once, which saves on shipping.
ChavezHype
well i wouldn't just buy random records for the genres that i listen to now. I'd use it just to sample another genre - help get a better understanding of some new labels i may like. I'm not going to splurge on music that I know. I'll just buy what I like.

Yea, i only really like about 30-40 of all my records, but I have a bad habit of just buying .

yeah i know, why would you want to spin someone elses style as far as the bulks go , i think its a good idea for you to learn beatmatching on differenet records and if you have some cash lying around ...

hey ChavezHype, i noticed you are in toronto, and Release Records has the same thing, and if you go there maybe you can talk to them tell them you like a certain dj and they would actually give you some records that you would even like... i am dropping buy 2morrow with 2 other TA's so if you want to tag along just add me to msn : [email protected] , they are really friendly there and it is a really good record store also soo..

well go around 3-5 not sure right now but get back to me.

It's called Grab Boxes just under New Releases

Woah, woah, woah, hold on a second there!! JohnSmith and the others are absolutely correct. Let me give you my take on this:

I highly recommend, as a fellow DJ ( :D ), not to buy records in bulk or, in a word, not to buy them thoughtlessly. The records you buy is what makes your style! Don't go around getting the massive bulk deals 'cuz I bet you won't like at least half of the stuff there.

I know you're impatient and want to start ASAP (We all go through that phase), but it is best to keep your head cool and slowly build up your collection. (Your wallet will thank you, trust me!!!!!!!)

Go out to your local shops, browse quality online stores such as www.chemical-records.co.uk or www.juno.co.uk, and buy a few records at a time. The key is that you get what you want to spin! Music that you love!

The criterion I set for myself is this - if, during the previewing of a song, I feel an instant tug, or my heart leaps, or there is any other indication like that - not to mention if I start bobbing my head - then that means that vinyl is for me. :) If it doesn't cause this, no matter how uncertain I am, I have to put it back, if for no other reason than the $$$ issue. Diminishing returns: it isn't worth getting a record that you only half-like, for the full price of another record that you would potentially really like.

Eventually you will have the debt piling up (if the addiction gets to you, that is, and it most certainly will) and you'll see for yourself that it isn't worth getting just any old record.

Happy shopping and good luck! Enjoy :)

hahaha
You hit it right on the head.
I'll probably just go to some local stores and check out what they've got.

You can check out some of the older/used stuff it's cheaper and sometimes you find stuff that's quite good.
