Internet Stops Responding When I Use P2P Progs

My internet connection is fine until i start up a p2p program (soulseek or direct connect is what i use). The time it stays on varies, sometimes i can be on it for 30 mins and other times about 2 seconds. Whenever i start a download the internet just stops responding, my msn goes offline, and i can't access any webpages. I then need to reboot to re-connect to the internet.
Downloading from targets doesn't cause the same affect, i can do that fine :conf:
This problem only arose when i switched from Windows ME to Windows XP. don't wanna go back to using ME. MY connection is broadband with BT Openworld.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated :) |

it could well be the windows xp firewall messing things up, first goto www.zonealarm.com and download the free version of zonealarm, its probabley the most simplist firewall to setup and it does the job. then goto network conections and right click on the conection that is for your internet, select properties, then the advanced tab. disable the firewall check box.
if you still have problems do a search for spyware - i use ad aware from http://www.lsfileserv.com/, if you still have problems do let us know

| some of the spyware items could be cookies from sites you visit, these in most cases are fine. some p2p programs do use spyware to make them some £££, and if u delete the spyware the p2p program may not work, what p2p programs do you use normally? |
