Detroit??? It came outta Germany by way of Kraftewrk in the mid 70's. Detroit didnt come into the seen until 1984 with Cybrotron's Techno City.

There also is a book called the Rough Guide to Techno, it should be in your local bookstore. It is small and has the biographies of many techno people and it essentially tells the story of techno from the belleville three (kevin saunderson, derrick may, juan atkins) and the first phase of techno to the 2nd generation (Carl Craig, Kenny Larkin and Stacy Pullen). Interesting stuff.
