well with the ongoing improvments of soft synths you can say that the importance of using hardware isn't as a big as it used to be.. but think about it ... software is only there to emulate hardware , so if you do have hardware under hand well it's a good thing and I'd go as far as to say it can only help :p

Why not check it by yourself?

My favourite d'n'b producer(s) use(s) only softsynths (in this case Paul B and sometimes Sta & Paul B).

I couldn't believe it when Paul B said they don't use hardsynths...

... you won't believe what those crazy Russians can do :D

the only thing required to write great tracks is great skill and talent.

For the rest....not software....and not hardware :D

I'm sure great people would do great on tape recorders and guitars and stuff :D

Softwares less expensive, less hassle, you can still have the hardware feel with midi controllers if you want. You can spend alot more money on soft synths and get more sound than you could with regular hardware.

have to disagree on the less hassle bit. I don't want to have to worry about weird glitches and keeping my system updated and all sorts of annoying software artifacts that would distract me from making music.

But the choice is very personal
