Not when it was explained to me by one of the founders.
This walk (unless it's changed) is against male-caused and male-perpetrated violence - not violence where the victims are men. It's violence caused BY men (against men, women, animals). |

| I agree with RJ... this is a perfect example of how society has taken discrimination -by- a group and turned it into discrimination -against- that group. White hetero males are apparently all a bunch of racist homophobic chauvinists. :rolleyes: It's gettin' old. |

| agree with RJ on a lot of points... as far as I know I am not gonna walk for ... as it ain't gonna help the cause in anyway... people just need to be more concious of what other people do to each other (i.e. spousal abuse is being commited) and actually do something about that... |

i'm a guy.. i'm not violent. i don't see why i have to walk and support something against male violence. Freaken girl the other day wanted to kick my ass at school cuz i accidentally walked into her. Doesn't that make her violent as well?
NOW, i've seen guys beat up girls but like RJ said, violence IS violence. I personally wouldn't mind supporting a walk against violence but a walk against men violence? Comeon, u gotta be kidding me!
i wanna write a letter to that MOFO promoting this walk.... any one got their email address? |

look I'm not being particular or saying that violence isn't universal, and boundless. I agree with what all of you have said so far. I'm going b/c my friend wants to go, and I feel like a day off of school, and I just feel like going down town. $20 isn't much for me so it's nothing out of my way.
I simply wanted to know if any TAs would be there.

I was opposed to it becuase it singled out *male* violence - when violence is a genderless, raceless problem. I was one of maybe 100 people out of 1500 in my high-school who didn't go to the event. Instead we each donated $20 to the united way.

Yes, there is violence against women - which is sick and disgusting - but for me all violence upsets me - which is why I can't support a walk against MALE violence - but I would support a walk agaist VIOLENCE.
So - to my point - has this walk changed any since I was first introduced to it so many years ago?
Admitedly, I was very bothered by the guy who came and spoke to us in grade 9. I left the assembly feeling like I came from a violence-mongering group (men).
Coming from a home where I had to boot out my step-father becuase he hit my mom when I was 16 I am all against violence - don't get me wrong. I just don't like feeling like a perpetrator when it isn't waranted (regardless of statistics. I could bring up race/crime stats (from the US) that would make people sick).
I -might- give money to this group - but only if they drop their anti-men attitude - and adopt an anti-violence view (of course a tax receipt would be required). |

Might aswell share my story
In grade 8 I got slapped by a girl... why .... cause some other girl lied to her that i called her a bi**h :crazy: which was not true, since I actually liked the girl lol, anyway I would never hit a lady, so i let her slap my ten times in the face, now who was violent there :conf: the TEACHER saw this, students witnessed it, and the school done NOTHING, imagine if it was a guy hitting a girl, what would've happened. |

To be honest, I would protest this - based on the fact that it is against -male- violence rather than violence as a whole (just as I did when I was in HS).
The point is this: All violence is wrong. Physial/emotional - it's all the same. It doesn't matter if a woman or a man causes/inflicts it... It's all wrong... |
