Statistically I'd say yes.
I think progressive music is something that is appreciated at a more (i hate to say this) sophisticated level the same way classical music is. It can be 'boring' at times or seem like nothing is changing but you have to concentrate on the music more to appreciate it.

However, there are some of us who like prog house like moi :D
so, sometimes yes sometimes no

first off...this thread is stupid, you think music is going to change for you when you hit 19 buddy?

and elmo, shame on you for comparing classical music to prog

I think prog is ok, but nothing deep or complicated, unless you are an idiot, well then things would be complicated a lot of the time.

music is music, of course taste changes when you are older but not because of your age, but because you are starting to intigrate more things into your imagination and tolerence, thats a question of maturity really, not age. i kno a lot of ppl that are not mature, yet are very old...umm then there are ppl who smoke weed a lot...umm they cant form sentences well

yes... when your 7 what kind of music do you listen to? when your 14 what kind of music do you listen to? when your 25 what kind of music do you listen to? I dont know what it is...maybe you just hear different things at a different age who knows thats what Mecha is asking

classical music is not appreciated by the younger generation. how many 'under 19' people do you see on the bus or walking on the street listening to beethoven or mozart? I said it takes more concentration to listen to prog as opposed to trance. admit it, for you trance djs when you go vinyl shopping do you sit there and listen to the song or do you skip to the building and decide on whether the track is right for you?

your right, no music is complicated. classical music is just layers of instruments playing in harmony right? however, to create them in a way that is unique, gives you a feeling of emotion, thats not because its 'just music'.

the question asked was why does prog house seem to be more popular in the 19+ crowd, looks like that last paragraph was your answer...no need for the above.

Who is the idiot? Hmmm... I think that idiot is you. Do you even know the slightest thing about Classical music? Both forms, both genres are similar in the sense that they are 'artistic' and 'creative', and emphasize and encourage those sort of inclinations. The ONLY difference between prog and classical, is that there is no dynamics changes in prog. It is banged out as loud as possible, at the same level, throught the balance of each track. Besides that, there are really no differences between the two. Feel free to explain -- rationally -- where this unfounded crock of bull is coming from.

Might 'abercrombieboy' = the ever annoying OasisAwaits from Tribe, who, after finally being banned from there, has moved on to annoy a new messageboard altogether?
Dr. Z

Its true, the people who listen to classical are at a higher intellectual awareness. I've seen geeks my age (19) listening to classical. And some genious children also listen to classical. Just because most of the brainwashed "teens" listen to sean desman, or christina, doesn't mean age affects your musical preference.

Look at another example. Look at HHC (happy hardcore) ravers. They go through their whole life listening to happy hardcore. Since HHC is similar to children's music, that would mean they practicaly listened to the same type of music their whole life.

As said before, the only reason most of the prog listeners are 19+ is because of the clubs. The clubs play prog while they are 19+ addmitance.

^^^^^^well then if thats the theory that based on clubs playing prog being the reason for 19- being uninterested in it, then how would u explain the liking of trance, HHC, hungle, dnb and so on???

how many all ages clubs play that kind of stuff??

but wait..we have destiny, nightmare, purple heaven etc that have parties which the 19- partake in...

hmmm but how do they get people to go to the parties if they havent heard the music before???

going back to the first question, this is a question taht has many potential answers but there isnt one that would be perfect to explain it.

i have to see alotta these opinions are different yet most of them seem to make sense.

but IMO, i agree with the fact that you can eventually handle more complex sequences and harder, deeper layers of music.

after all music is just a bunch of noise artisticly put together to create a freedom of expression, send u on a euphoric state and eventually purge ur emotions from the every day stress. The more ur brain develops, the deeper the sequences have to be and the more complex music gets.

think of it as a high. When u get used to a certain dosage, u need to increase the dosage to obtain the same high. After getting used to that high, u gotta switch to a stronger high.

Prog. is certainly the stronger stuff and u gotta appereciate it for what it is. for all who don't listen to prog regularly (including myself) i would incorage u to go for it. i'm pretty new to the subgenere and i already starting to love it.

Agreed. Whenever I look at a 19+ club that plays prog (take Lotus for example) it's as if they market it towards being "mature", "business" type of atmosphere (I read a review from someone in here that said people were just standing around not dancing or anything). I mean that type of vibe isn't for me...imo. I want to party and groove to the tunage and meet cool people. Not go there and act like I'm some sort of elitist etc. Doesn't matter what kind of tunage they play, for me whether or not it's prog or trance, as long as people are dancing and having a wicked ass time I could care less.

this post is $$$$$$
