I wish some of those statistics were less biased on population.
Like internet users, instead of how many why not do per capita?
Iceland at one point had more cell phone users per capita, more internet users per capita, more cars per family per capita, etc..
Little countries like Iceland compare to a lot of the big countries in some catagories and I'd like to see those kinds of statistics.
Oh well, its no big deal either way.. What rankings my country gets is irrelevant, cause I love it either way. |

Yes :)

If you include people who speak it as a second or third language (such as yourself?) then English is probably top. I don't think I've ever met anyone who speaks Mandarin as a second language, yet people all over the world speak English as a second language. |
Not really... I recall I saw the numbers somewhere and there are just 200 million/300 million people that speak English (properly) as a second language: usually only those who have a good education learn it... and not all of them do, so it doesn't top Mandarin (even because I believe that many people speak Mandarin as a second language in China, i.e. those whose first language is Cantonese, Wu, ...).
Does anyone have official numbers to confirm (or not) what I'm saying? :) |
